A few years ago we bought a new car and I purchased a computer-based shop manual for the car from eBay. I installed it on two of my Windows 7 computers;a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version. Both of the installations went fine and the program runs fine on both of them.

The program runs in an environment called VMware Player, rather than just running in Windows 7 directly. I know very little about virtual machines, but I think that this one is running Windows XP as the OS in the window.

Yesterday, I decided to install the program on a computer that I built last year using an Asus B150 motherboard and an Intel Core i3-6100 processor. The installation went okay, but when I tried to launch the program in VMware Player, I get the BSOD with the following information:

Attached File  VMware Player.JPG   86.54KB   0 downloads

I have no idea what this is telling me. Can anyone point me to a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance

If the program works fine on other systems you have...first thing I would do is uninstall it and reinstall, to see if the error was just a quirk of Windows.

If I still had a problem with said program...I would do the following.

1.  Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

2.  Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  Clicking on this link will automatically initiate the download.

When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

speccy9_zps2d9cdedc.png

Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot.

The following screen will appear, click on Yes.

speccy7_zpsfa02105f.png

The following screen will appear, click on Copy to Clipboard.

speccy3_zps1791b093.png

In your next post right click inside the Reply to Topic box, then click on Paste.  This will load a link to the Speccy log.

Louis,

Thanks for the information. I did uninstall and reinstall the program, hoping that this would fix the problem, but it did not. I will do what you suggested later today.

Louis,

Okay, here is what you asked for.

Before posting it, though, there is a little more information that I didn't include before because I didn't want to throw in too many wrenches at once. When I originally bought this shop manual program about 4 years ago, I installed it on my Acer desktop computer running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I also installed it on my Acer laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. On both of these computers, I was able to start and run the program just by double-clicking the desktop icon.

I recently built the new computer (the one that I started the thread about) and had decided to dispose of the Acer desktop, so I erased the HDD. Then I changed by mind about getting rid of it, so I used the Recovery disks to put it back to its out-of-the-box state, and then used Windows Update to bring it up to the latest level. So I now had two computers without the shop manual program.

I decided to install the shop manual program on both of these computers this weekend. The program installed successfully on both of them. However, now the program works a little differently than it had previously. On the old Acer desktop, if I double-clicked the icon, I got a message telling me that I did not have permission to access some of the program files and the program did not run. However, if I right-clicked the icon and clicked Run As Administrator, then the program would run fine. On the new computer, I got something similar; double-clicking the icon gave me the message that I did not have the required permissions. However, right-clicking and clicking Run As Administrator gave me the BSOD that I referenced above.

So with that said, here is the information that you requested:

I don't know anything about virtual machines...but the errors indicate that it is the only problem on that system crying for attention.  I don't have the knowledge/experience  to post anything really useful.

Louis,

Thanks for looking into this. I hope someone else will take a look at this and offer some help.

I finally got this problem resolved by downloading the latest version of the VMware Player to the new computer. Now I can get the program to run, but I still have to run it as an Administrator. I'm not sure why this computer needs the latest version of the software to run when the other two Windows 7 computers do not. I also don't understand why two of the computers required the program to be run as Administrator, while the third does not. But since the program now runs on all three computers, I guess these are minor issues.
