At random intervals I see a black command (DOS?) box open up on my desktop which runs some code and then vanishes. I have checked the events file but can find nothing relevant there. It only started to happen after I replaced my aging diss drive with a new hybrid disc and reinstalled W10 and everything else.

Does anyone have any idea what it might be? And how to stop it doing whatever it does.

My task scheduler does this, it runs a script for updating Windows Defender "outside" of Windows Updates.  Also, another DOS box opens and that one is the ccenhancer becoming self-aware and kicks into gear ccleaner [which deletes cache files at every coldpost/restart].  Perhaps your computer's task scheduler is doing something or some things similarly?

I think we have it - something called "ACC". Is this Adobe?

Maybe - I don't know what it is, but removing it stopped the problem.
