After installing linux mint 17'3 I have encounterd some possible issues with my web browser [Firefox] and how it may or may not be handleing cookies.

Mainly my bank and several other online websites I do buisness with are forgetting my login credentials. This is normal if your settings are set that way. When I was useing win 10 and ccleaner I simply added those sites to the exclusion list. Worked ok for several years.

However I recently switched to Mint as my OS.  This was the first time I went to pay bills since mint was enstalled.

I chose firefox for my browser, after updateing it and checking for the lastest versions I left Firefox and thunderbird to use its default settings.

Sorry have to leave for a bit.  Back.  To make a long story short my bank has several different reasons for not recogniseing my PC.

Mostly to do with cookies.  However the last 1 is changing OS.

Everything I read and have been told says this should not make a difference. But the banks IT department has been slow getting back to me on my queries

Firefox has a lot of settings and options for deleteing cookies but not much on adding to the exceptions list..

As far as I know, you can only set exceptions for accepting / declining cookies in firefox. You cannot delete some on close but not others.
Here is how I configure my browser to keep cookies:
Navigate to about:preferences in firefox.
Click on Privacy.
Under the "History" heading, there is a drop down menu that says "Firefox will ...". Select "Use Custom Settings for History". Several settings should appear. Set them as follows: ([ ] means an unchecked box. [x] means a checked box. [option] means you will select option "option" from a drop down list)
  • [ ] Always use private browsing mode
  • [ ] Remember my browsing and download history
  • [ ] Remember my search and form history
  • [x] Accept Cookies from sites
    • Accept Third-party cookies: [From Visited]
    • Keep until: [they expire]
  • [ ] Clear history when firefox closes
try using firefox with those settings and see if that works.

Thank you looking further into this there seems to be some kind of exceptions list in the advanced settings.  How ever it is not real clear wether I am to add the entire site [all pages] or just the log in page.

Another interesting note: Since making the original post I have found that the other web sites are working correctly.  However at my bank I am still stuck on the merrygoround.

I think the exception list *excludes* certain sites.
