Windows 7 Pro SP1

Avast 11.1.2253

Several times (4, 5?) at boot up Avast has a notice that says "You are unprotected. Avast background service is not running.  Start now"

If I click on [Resolve all], Avast starts up and tells me I am protected, but in short order Windows stop functioning.  Small dialogs pop up says something like 'This process has stopped responding' [Wait] [Cancel]  (I do not remember the exact message).

I have to do a hard shutdown and when rebooting 'Start Windows normally'.

Help would be appreciated.

Hi Allan,

I would suggest that you remove Avast then reinstall it. Use the Avast Removal Tool - http://support.eset.com/kb146/?locale=en_US

If this phenomenon continues after the reinstall of Avast, I would suggest removal again, then select another anti-virus product.

Regards. . .

During the custom/advanced install, what modules/services are you allowing Avast to install?  There may be a few that you can live without and make Windows "happier" at the same time.
