So this started months ago...last summer to be exact. My desktop computer would just not be connected to internet anymore. After a while it would just work again. I figured my usb wireless adapter was dying so I bought a new one. Same problem. I googled and tried a few things suggested but nothing fixed it. Sometimes it would just work. So I bought an ethernet cable and hardwired the computer. Same problem persisted. I decided to do the free upgrade to windows 10, not even thinking it was a windows 7 problem. After upgrading the internet never disconnected again. Long story short, windows 10 crashed my computer after a few months and I lost all information and had to reformat the hard drive and install windows 7 again. About a month after that the internet problem started again. It was then that I realized it must be a windows 7 problem. I've googled tons and tried so many things but nothing has fixed it. Someone told me to update my network adapter which was a huge fight but I finally got it from a 2009 driver to a 2013 driver. Right afterwards the internet connected and stayed for about 2 weeks. But then it started disconnecting again and it's getting harder to get it to work. Mostly now I have to just leave it alone for days at a time and it will just work again. It's incredibly frustrating. I don't know much about computers and I just cannot figure this out on my own. Ive posted in other forums and done what was asked but nothing has fixed it. Honestly most of the things Ive been asked to do I don't even know what they are. I know I did a winsock reset (whatever that is) a few times and ipconfig renew/release. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also please let me know what additional information you need. I'm using a Dell Optiplex 755 desktop computer. Also should be noted that I also have a dell laptop which has no problem staying connected, as well as 3 cell phones and 4 tablets in the house that work flawlessly. It's working at the moment but that will change any time I'm sure.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The service tag number is 7Y6V9F1

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2925656/internet-settings.html

 http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2992527/internet.html

I also just hooked up my old router that worked perfectly before I moved with this computer since all the problems started when I moved and got a whole new internet setup. It connected right away and pages were opening quickly for about 10 minutes. Then out of nowhere none of the pages would open any more. So I definitely think it's the computer or software and not the router.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

- How did you install Windows 7 back into the machine?

- Are you using the VPN software?

Might want to review the event viewer logs on the dell pc for errors that may explain what is going on.

Anitvirus/firewall/antimalware up to date and working?

looking at the other threads ipconfig /all you shouldn't have:

Intel® 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection

set to DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

It is a invalid ip configuration.  You listed no gateway = no internet and it appears you have the wrong subnet.

You list 192x but the Tap driver shows 10x via dhcp

I would suggest you set the gigabit network connection with dhcp enabled = YES and disable the virtual hardware TAP-Windows Adapter V9 adapter.

Then post the results of a new ipconfig /all for review.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

- How did you install Windows 7 back into the machine?

- Are you using the VPN software?

I installed it with the disks that came with the computer. I bought it refurbished a few years ago and it came with the windows 7 installation disks. I have vpn software but it hasn't been turned on lately since internet isn't working. The problem was going on for months before I got the vpn though, I only got it about 3 weeks ago.

Firewall has been turned off for a few months, and I uninstalled antivirus because it was suggested it might have been blocking internet. It made no difference.

Those ipconfig logs are old, I'm not sure if it matters. I'm not sure what any of that means. I will try to figure out how to set the gigabit network connection with dhcp enabled and to disable virtial hardware for the TAP adapter.

Here is the ipconfig from right now. I haven't messed with any settings or anything yet. The internet is cutting in and out quickly, every page has to reload over and over and then it will just load. Not sure if this helps or not.

Hi,

I would like to collect some logs from the computer to see what we can find...

You will have to download the tools to a USB flash drive on a working computer and run them on the problematic machine.

Save all files to the Flash Drive.

» Check the Disk for Errors

  • open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  • type the command:
    chkdsk /f /x C:
Note: When it ask if you want to checked the volume next time the system restarts answer Yes
  • restart the computer.

Next,

  • execute ListChkdskResult and accept all the windows prompts to authorize the program to run
  • Notepad will open with a report showing the chkdsk result
  • copy & paste the log to your reply

» Minitoolbox log
Run Minitoolbox from the Flash Drive and check the following options:

  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (Only Problems)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
  • List Minidump Files
  • List Restore Points

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.

» Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) log
Let's check some windows critical services...

  • Run FSS from the Flash Drive
  • Check all the options
  • click Scan

Post the generated log in your reply.

• Please do not PM me asking for support. Post on the forums instead it will increases the chances of getting help for your problem by one of us.
• Posts in the Malware section that are not replied to within 4 days will be closed. PM me or a moderator to reactivate.
• Please post your final results, good or bad. We like to know! Thank you!

Hi,

Please uninstall µTorrent torrents are very good to get your computer infected with malware! also if it starts running it can kill your network connection.

Some questions for you:

- Did you remove AVG? because if you did there are several remnants remaining that we need to take care...

- Did you run a tool called Combofix at some point?

  • Please download NetAdapter Repair All in One and save the file to the Desktop
  • Execute the file NetAdapterRepair1.2 (On Windows Vista and above right click the icon and choose Run as Administrator, accept the security warning)

netadapapter648.jpg

  • Check the boxes for the following Options only:
    • Change to Google DNS
  • Click the button Run All Selected
  • Restart the Computer

After this try to use the computer for some time and tell me if you continue to have the disconnects.

Not wanting to step on any toes, this most likely is not it, but maybe she has power saving mode on which is turning her usb and network adapter off?

I don't want to uninstall utorrent, I've been using it for about 3 years without any problems. I did uninstall AVG yesterday but it didn't help anything so I will be reinstalling it when the problem is fixed. I don't think I have ever ran a program called ComboFix. I havent heard of it and it's not on either one of my computers so I don't think I have.

I installed and ran the NetAdapter repair program and then restarted but it didn't change anything. I still have no internet.

About utorrent It's your choice but please don't use the program until the problem is sorted.

- Remove AVG completely please by running http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe (You can reinstall the program latter if you wish)

- Post a new Minitoolbox log please.
