Posted 02 August 2006 - 06:42 AM

Ive done all the necessary scans and what nots to try and get rid of this. I cleared my computer of most other malware but I cant seem to get rid of one that pops up within the browser that is called sysprotect, and it tried to get me to download a program.

My antivirus program catches it as a threat..saying its a variant of a Windows 32 something.. but it slows my computer down alot because it takes a few minutes to be able to close the browser.

Here is my HJT log.

Hi,

Can you rename HijackThis.exe to Analyse.exe ?
Rightclick Hijackthis.exe and choose rename.
Then reboot and after reboot, doubleclick Analyse.exe and post the log it creates in your next reply (this will be a hijackthislog ofcourse).

Sorry for the delay I did not realise you had answered my post.
So a few more Adware/Spyware pop ups have happened as well as slow start ups, loading and shut downs

After renaming to Analyse.exe here is my log

After renaming to Analyse.exe here is my log

You didn't rename it properly because I still see: you're running HijackThis.exe:

C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe

Please do it again!

Go to start > controlpanel > software > add/remove programs and uninstall next if present:

Oin
Yazzle by Oin
Purityscan by Oin
Snowballwars by Oin

or anything similar with OIN or OuterInfo in it.

If OIN not listed, download and run this uninstaller.

Reboot when done! Really important!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Step #1

Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {52B7E512-02FB-4DEE-9D91-F09EFB3B84FD} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {873eb32d-ae1a-4183-89bd-45a77f761be4} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CBCC61FA-0221-4ccc-B409-CEE865CACA3A} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EAB0E985-2E1F-4D54-B9A5-B3CD1A6087FD} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iiffe.dll

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: userinit.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: iiffe - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iiffe.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: wineru32 - wineru32.dll (file missing)

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All

Do you have enough patience? It could take a while....

Try the following for Safe Mode:
  • Download BootSafe and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click the BootSafe icon to start the program.
  • Select "Safe Mode - Minimal".
  • Click the Reboot button
  • When you have completed your tasks, simply run BootSafe again and select the Normal Restart option and click the Reboot button and your computer will reboot in Normal Mode.

Hi,

Try this then try to boot into safe mode:

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

Notice the space after "sfc"

You might need your original XP disk that came with the computer. What will happen now will take a half hour or possibly longer as Windows will replace any missing or defective Windows files. When completed, remove the disk, reboot, and see if things improve.

In theory this will not affect your data or settings on your computer, but I would recommend backing up your data first anyway. Backups are never a bad idea.

If you run into problems with sfc /scannow, then you might look HERE for an answer first. Or ask back here and we can help!

We can fix all these problems with the instructions posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=339357

If you still can't boot into Safe Mode, please run them in normal mode.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Step #1

I see you are running Teatimer.
I suggest you to disable it because it can interfere with the changes you'll make on your system.
When everything is done and your log is clean again, you can enable it again.
If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.
How to disable TeaTimer during HijackThis Cleanup
Then, Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer.

Step #2

Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {52B7E512-02FB-4DEE-9D91-F09EFB3B84FD} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {62B16422-2C8E-4B40-A937-A42D5E68C145} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iiffe.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {873eb32d-ae1a-4183-89bd-45a77f761be4} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CBCC61FA-0221-4ccc-B409-CEE865CACA3A} - (no file)

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: userinit.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: iiffe - C:\WINDOWS\
O20 - Winlogon Notify: wineru32 - C:\WINDOWS\

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

REBOOT your computer!

Step #3

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_08-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Step #4

Please run a free online scan with Kaspersky AntiVirus (works only with MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher).
Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button (NOT "Kaspersky File Scanner").
  • In the new window that opens, click the "Accept" button to accept the user agreement, install the ActiveX control, and download the program.
  • When you get the Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the "Install" button.
  • When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button lights up with a green arrow, click it.
  • Click on the "Scan Settings" button, and in the next window select the "extended" database, and click Ok.
  • Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window, and post the text in kavscan.txt in your next reply.

Start HijackThis and perform a new scan.

Use the Add Reply button to post your new logs back here along with as details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.
