Hp Pavilion 20-b313w

OS Windows 8 with 8.1 upgrade

This started about 2 weeks ago when an ad pop-up in my free game app from the Windows Store displayed a fake Flash Player update notice. Since I was fooled in the past I didn't click on it, instead I closed the whole app using task manager. I got the pop-up once a day for 3 days, unfortunately on the 3rd day I got annoyed and clicked the x button to close the pop-up instead of using task manager. The next day I used the app and the banner ad space started to display an ad showing a green scanning bar with the message "fix windows errors". Since then the fake windows error ads have increased in variety and now show 'you have a message waiting' notifications. I got annoyed and pulled the cord out my modem and clicked a few of them and my immersive browser tried to connect to 'clickus teracreative com' (after I deleted my history and closed the browser before reconnecting). I don't know if the other pop-up ads that don't display 'errors' are legit or not but incase someone has heard of them before they are 'trk-int.addealsnetwork com/AdDeals/Tracking/Redirect?',   'securitas493maximus xyz/4244/1p3/71180/841/97',  'qualitysoftware124 com',  'pureadexchange com/a/display.php?r=996612',  'sw.adduplex com/ServeWin/LogAdClick?'.   I ran malwarebytes nothing was found and Super anti-spyware only found a few tracking cookies in appdata\local.

Adware.Tracking Cookie
 'adobe.tt.omtrdc net/m2/adobe mboxSession',  'vidstest2.d1.sc.omtrdc net/.s_vi',  '262855726.log.optimizely com/.end_user_id',  'smaato net/.SomaCookieUserId',  'w55c net/.wfivefivec',  'adk2xcom/.ih'  tracking.4v4jfe79erfxfu8z8 com'.

I'm also having performance issues, it boots slow, loads apps and internet explorer slow, random on & off moments of my cursor lagging or not responding to mouse clicks, and some vidoes I've watched on youtube had corrupt ads displayed on the video screen (ex. bellydance video had world dance new York banner in the top left corner and on the lower right hand side 2 box outlines overlapping each other). Ad block plus has been preventing any displays on videos until recently and also 2 videos on youtube had loading issues and I got a pop-up banner 'experiencing interrupts' with a 'find out why' button.

Also, I don't know if this is relevant but I've read fake Windows error messages can be due rogue security software. Is it possible that the Microsoft Security Essentials I see in uninstall programs is a fake? My computer came with Windows Defender already installed so I thought it was odd Security Essentials is also installed. But I brushed it off when I came across a discussion about Security Essentials is intergraded into Windows Defender, so I thought that explained why and I left it alone, was that a mistake? My computer also came with Norton Internet Security & Norton Studio installed. Since Windows Defender is my primary AV I uninstalled Norton with the Norton Removal Tool, but I still see folders and files on my computer. Could this also be part of the problem? If all of this stuff adds up to a bad malware problem how do I fix this?

p22002970.gif Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.

  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets.
Do NOT use spoilers.

I can't find a log for Temp File Cleaner, was it suppose to create one? I also think I messed up. Your instructions from your first reply said to not restart after running RKill. Unfornately I forgot but I didn't restart, I shut the computer down before carrying out your instructions in your second reply, Sorry. Should I run RKill again and then TFC, AdwCleaner, JRT, Sophos Virus Removal Tool? If I've caused a problem by assuming it was ok to proceed with the utilities in your second reply, I'm sorry. I assumed it didn't matter since there is a difference in shut down & restart, and because the rKill log showed only Process Explorer was terminated because I forgot to close it before running rkill. Here are the requested logs except Sophos VRT, no threats were found so I didn't open details to export the log. I still have the rogue/trojan  fix windows errors and you have a message waiting banners.

You did fine.

Your computer is clean p3879546.jpg

1. This step will remove all cleaning tools we used, it'll reset restore points (so you won't get reinfected by accidentally using some older restore point) and it'll make some other minor adjustments...
This is a very crucial step so make sure you don't skip it.
Download 51a5ce45263de-delfix.pngDelFix by Xplode to your desktop. Delfix will delete all the used tools and logfiles.

Double-click Delfix.exe to start the tool.
Make sure the following items are checked:

  • Activate UAC (optional; some users prefer to keep it off)
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create registry backup
  • Purge System Restore
  • Reset system settings

Now click "Run" and wait patiently.
Once finished a logfile will be created. You don't have to attach it to your next reply.

2. Make sure Windows Updates are current.

3. If any trojans, rootkits or bootkits were listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

4. Check if your browser plugins are up to date.
Firefox - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
other browsers: https://browsercheck.qualys.com/ (click on "Scan without installing plugin" and then on "Scan now")

5. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

6. Run Malwarebytes "Quick scan" once in a while to assure safety of your computer.

7. Run Temporary File Cleaner (TFC), AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) weekly (you need to redownload these tools since they were removed by DelFix).

8. Download and install Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI): http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/. The Secunia PSI is a FREE security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Run it weekly.

9. (optional) If you want to keep all your programs up to date, download and install FileHippo Update Checker.
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases.

10. When installing\updating ANY program, make sure you always select "Custom " installation, so you can UN-check any possible "drive-by-install" (foistware), like toolbars etc., which may try to install along with the legitimate program. Do NOT click "Next" button without looking at any given page.

11. Read:

12. Please, let me know, how your computer is doing.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been ill. I haven't carried out the instructions in your last reply because I still have the banner ads. They are a mix of scareware: fix windows errors, do you have errors click yes or no, and sudden streaming media loading interruptions with a pop-up banner to click and find out why. Also misleading notifications and the newest one of those is using the windows 10 logo with '1 message' flashing. I don't have windows 10 and the only errors or problems I'm having, I assume are being caused by what ever is generating these banners to get me to click on them. I did notice that I only get the banners in my app when I'm connected to the internet. All of the banners leads to the website 'clickus.teracreative com. I found that out by disconnecting from the internet when they popped-up and then clicked the banners, (I had to repeat that process for it each banner because they only run on a loop with an internet connection), and internet explorer's immersive view opened to that clickus website. Should I be concerned about these misleading & blinking banners or are they simply just annoying?

Internet Explorer 11 desktop, I'm not sure if the immersive view is also affected. But it's set as the default for my apps to open their support pages. Other than that I stopped using the immersive view because I'm confused about settings. Do I have to set them up separately or just the desktop view and the same rules will be applied in immersive too? Plus I think it's ridiculous you can't close all of the tabs, there is always one blank tab open, and the browser also stays open after closing it, if I want it completely closed I have to end task in task manager. but I guess that's Microsoft reimaging Windows, allowing apps to stay open after use so they can champ up resources.

Is it possible to block clickus.teracreative com or any others that might pop-up in the future by adding it to my MVP Host File list? If yes, how and where on the list should I add the new entry and should I flush the DNS cache?
