Started getting the Norton Security Center Virus Alert every 10 minutes for bloodhound.hybridCOM about a month ago. I did a system RECOVERY about 2 weeks ago and everything was fine until today.......

Object Name : C:\Documents and Settings\owner\local settings\application data\microsoft\msn\db\mail\(my email)\index

Virus Name : Bloodhound.HybridCOM

Action Taken : Unable to repair this file - Access to the file was denied.

Norton doesn't find anything, Ad-Aware nothing, Spy Bot nothing. I've also deleted almost all of my email just to try to make this stop!?! Please help me!

What version of Norton Anti-virus are you using? NAV has the ability to detect unknown viruses of various types using heuristic algorithms known as Bloodhound. See here. Bloodhound is not the name of a virus, but a message displayed by NAV when it thinks it may have found a new virus.

From what I have read this can also happen if the virus detection technology is set too high so you may want to reset Bloodhound to its default settings and try scanning again. From personal experience when I used NAV in the past I have found some of the Bloodhound alerts to be a false positive.

Get a second opinion by performing one of these online Virus scans:
[Watch the Address bar in IE. You may receive alerts that "This site might require the following ActiveX control...Click here to install...". Click on that alert and then Click Install ActiveX component.]
Trend Micro Housecall Scan
Panda ActiveScan.

Thanks for the help. I'm running Trend Micro House Call right now. I think my NAV settings are on default but i'll check.

I deleted ALL of my email that I had gotten since this started poping up about a month ago and it quit! None of the scans found anything and 2005 NAV was set to medium on the bloodhound. I guess it could have been something in a email!? Is that possible? It was poping up every ten minutes but it's been almost 12 hours and nothing! Yeah!

It could also have been a false alarm. Anyway, glad to hear the problem is resolved.
