I have a laptop with Xubuntu 15.10 and Windows 7 in a dual-boot configuration with GRUB. When trying to boot Xubuntu, its loading screen shows up but is completely still; the loading indicator does not animate. The OS would become stuck on its loading screen and the computer would need to be manually shut down.

I have tried to use the recovery mode through GRUB, but I don't know what the tools do. When I exited recovery mode, it takes me to what I think might be my login screen--pixels are offsetted, repeated, and glitched out, but they do change when I move my mouse around.

When the splash screen appears to lock, if you hit the Tab key, can you see stuff loading in text mode ?

If not, boot .. leave it a couple of minutes .. then hit Ctrl+Alt+F3 .. are you presented with a text console ?

Have you tried booting an earlier kernel from the GRUB menu ?
