Recovery disk

My friends computer Win XP has the BSOD screen and shows "unmountable _boot_volume"   he took it to a computer shop and they told him they need his recovery disk before they can do anything...he cannot find it...one of my computers has XP home..and I have the latest System Mechanic program...  one of the features is making a recovery disk which I made..will this work on my friends computer and recover it??

I am not familiar with the System Mechanic disk. The error could be due to a failing hard drive or corrupt file system. 


The first thing I would do is pull any important data off the drive by booting a Hirens CD. After pulling the data do a chkdsk on the drive.


If you cannot pull the data there are a number of tools on the Hirens CD to check the hard drive.
