I got proftpd on my debian (jessie). I used sudo apt-get install proftpd. It corrected it automatically to proftpd-basic. I did not care. When i set it up i opened port 21, port 2121, and port 2122(2121 and 2122 are listening ports). I used ftptest.net and it gives me this error(using port 21): Error: Server returned unroutable provate IP address in PASV reply

using port 2121 or 2122, i get a refused connection error.

So far, i dont know much about it. If u could to give me help, i would love it.

Thanks,

Tom

Did you open up those ports on your router/firewall? If not you will need to do both. By default a Linux firewall blocks mostly everything, so you will need to allow those ports. On your router you will need to use port forwarding on those ports to allow the connection out/in.

can you be more specific?

is the ftp service running?

can you connect from localhost?

at ftptest are you using an IP address or FQDN?

does your ISP block FTP connections?

proftpd is FTP Server software, yes?  The machine you've installed it on, you are intending it to be accessible via the internet?  As the others say, is there a router or firewall between it and the "world"?  The last 2 questions from raw are very important ones.
