I have had about 7 or 8 BSOD's with BAD_POOL_HEADER in the past week.

I have a self-built PC with the following:
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
AMD FX8350 CPU
16Gb RAM
Nvidia GT 640 Graphics card
240Gb Samsung SSD system drive and several storage drives
Gigabyte Motherboard

I recently upgraded Nvidia software with the clean install option, but hasn't helped. I read on another forum that Malwarebytes caused this, so I tried uninstalling that...but hasn't helped. I tried using windows restore with AVG disabled, but restore failed. I've scanned for malware with malwarebytes (before removing it) and with AVG and with Hitman pro and with Super anti-spyware. The computer seems clean.

Any ideas please?

Please run this report collecting tool so that we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location. (By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop)
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.

If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

Only 250 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most systems with SP1 have 400 or more.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

You have 5 hard drives.  What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

This device has problems in Device Manager:

VIA USB 3 Root Hub    USB\VIA_ROOT_HUB\5&22CE6DF0&0    This device cannot start.

Please download and install the USB 3.0 drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Then re-check to ensure that the problem device is fixed.  If no, then post back for more suggestions.

The BSOD's seem to center around your AVG antivirus - but may also be caused by ZoneAlarm.

Also, there's some video card issues popping up also (may or may not be significant).

Due to the number of different problems, I'd:

- uninstall AVG and ZoneAlarm (temporarily).

- install Microsoft Security Essentials (temporarily) and ensure that the Windows firewall is enabled.

If that doesn't stop things, then start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http:/www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Hi John.

Thanks so much for your very in-depth reply. I am trying to work my way through all your flagged issues. However, the main issue is now resolved. From reading your analysis of the dump files I felt that AVG was more likely the cause of the problem, so I uninstalled it and rebooted. Now, almost a week later I am happy to report that I have not suffered the dreaded BAD_POOL_HEADER BSOD since removing the AVG.

Thanks so much for your help and I will continue to work through your list to clean up my PC further.

Ben.
