Greetings,

I formatted my computer, and after installing windows 7 again, my physical memory in task manager is very high, and cpu keeps jumping up and down.

I looked at the processes tab, but noticed absolutely nothing taking abnormal memory (private working set.) Then moved on to performance tab> resource monitor, and found svchost (I think it was netsvcs in parenthesis,) hogging all the memory. After ending the process, I still have had high memory usage, and surprisingly, do not see a process anywhere in task manager with high numbers next to it, so I have no idea what's happening.

I have noticed that my windows 7 folder keeps increasing in size, currently about 26 gigs, and a helper told me that it's normal because the updates in windows 7 have a different compression method than windows 8 and after, however when I had previously installed windows 7, fully updated... my folder size was normal, so I assume it can be done?

I originally posted in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section, however I did not find malware on my computer, so unless it's very new malware, I am certain windows 7 is causing this problem.

For antivirus, I am currently using a free trial of Norton.

Advice?

P.S. This is probably better for the hardware section, but can constant high physical memory, and cpu usage ruin my hardware? I am avoiding using things that take up high cpu and memory right now, and it's currently about 1.2 gigs phy memory, cpu jumping usually 0% - up to 15%

Frankly, I see no evidence of a system problem regarding RAM usage...I see no indication of a hardware problem.

The errors that you have...are all quite common.  They appear on systems with file corruption, illegal installs, and other unknown problems.

I suggest running the sfc /scannow command and hoping for the best...although it seems strange to me that 2-week-old install should have file corruption issues.

Run sfc scannow command prompt, Aura - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/579699/missing-uxthemedll-file/?p=3736491

I'm not a trained technician, but I assure you, it is a memory problem.

One of the errors in my log is from a very old game, created maybe 15 years ago.

"The program Neuz.exe version 3.8.22.1 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed,"

Its system requirements are 500 mb memory, and 128mb graphics card. I assume the error has to do with it freezing and crashing because there was no available memory. It was a common error for me a long time ago.... but with 4 gb memory I don't understand how it could be possible, and how it could happen after a such a short time from when I opened it.

When I clicked some applications, they make memory go up much more than they are supposed to, and thus froze and crashed, I can only guess windows is causing this.

If I could somehow check my physical memory usage in dos mode, using a startup floppy disk, it would show if some windows process was taking up too much memory, but I only know how to check total memory.

Should I format my pc and put in the bare minimums? Antivirus, drivers, etc, adding in everything un-needed slowly, so I can figure out exactly what causes this?

Scan done.. "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Apologies for the long post.

- You've got 2 Firewalls running. Disable either the Windows or the Norton firewall.

- Open Task Manager (CTRL-Shift-Esc) and click on "processes" to see what processes are using how much memory.

- Total memory usage is quite normal for a 4 GB Win 7 system.

i had this high cpu usage and abnormally high ram usage dilemma, in vista 32. i disabled automatic updates and that solved it. you can get process explorer from the download section and launch it, it is much more forensically accurate. another good approach is to use "whatsinstartup.zip" to find out hidden startup items that are using abnormally high resources.

- What do you mean by "high memory usage" ? Does the "Standby" part of the memory occupy all the memory and is there no "Free" memory any more ? (See "Resource Monitor"). Memory usage is normal/low (37%) but that's the "In Use" part of the memory. So, I don't see what memory problem is.

- I assume you got all Win 7 Updates ? Windows Update can be a REAL "Pain in the a**" when it comes to memory & CPU usage.

- You've got 2 Firewalls running. (Norton & Windows). Disable one of them.

It said these settings are being managed by the vendor application Norton Security.

I tried that and the memory usage skyrocketed.

.....

I don't want to format, since it gave me a weird message about handles on the drive needing to be dismantled when I did it the first time.
