Windows 10 Pro (x64, Retail)

-- Fresh install, several weeks of use.

AMD FX-8350

Sapphire R9 380 4GB

M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Motherboard

Rosewill 750W PSU

16GB RAM G-Skill DDR3 @ 669MHz

Everything is relatively new except the PSU and RAM, which are a handful of years old.

Story
I got this CPU and Motherboard over Christmas. I didn't end up installing them until a recently, in February. I was afraid because my brother has this same CPU/Mobo combination and he experienced BSODs a few times and then freezing -- until eventually he freezes so often that he either hangs on the Windows bootup screen, or he freezes after getting to the desktop.

He tried reinstalling windows and it would freeze during the install process even (eventually he was able to get through the install process after several tries). He froze at the desktop when he tried installing Linux as well. He had to go back to his old computer because he can't even run windows now.

I am scared because it appears that my computer is beginning to take the same downward spiral as his. It started with a couple intermittent freezes and BSODs, and now he is totally locked up.
I am experiencing intermittent BSODs and freezes as well. I fear that I soon may not even be able to boot up!

Your UEFI/BIOS (version 2501) dates from 2014.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.

Only 3 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most build 10586 (TH2/1511) systems have more than this.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available Windows Updates.

You have 3 hard drives.  What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

There are many Live Kernel Events showing in the WER section of the MSINFO32 report

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Also, please start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html (start with the hard drive diagnostics as that's what the memory dump blames)

I haven't updated my BIOS because it's not available to update directly from Windows and I am not comfortable with doing it manually yet, unless I was told more about the process and things to be careful about.
Additionally, the manufacturers website gives me a .cap file to use and it is slightly confusing.

I am now installing windows updates regularly. I had them set to manually install and I was being negligent about it.

My power supply is a Rosewill 750w, it has an 80 Plus Bronze rating sticker -- I don't know the exact model.

My temps are doing fine.

I will start those hardware diagnostics soon.

Attatched my .etvx zip.

Really apprecate the thorough help :)

Last night my computer crashed (BSOD) when I tried to put it to sleep manually.

My computer is crashing when it tries to sleep.

Please zip up and upload the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory.

If you have difficulties zipping it, copy it to your Desktop and zip it up from there.

While waiting for a reply, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

My minidump is empty because of CCleaner.
I unchecked that cleaning option in the program and tried to get a BSOD myself by manually going into sleep mode...
But, instead of blue screening, it now is coming awake from sleep but getting stuck on a black screen until it says no HDMI input.

I've tried messing around with some power options but that didnt help.

I have resulted to disabling timed sleep mode and timed display shut off.
Instead I just keep my PC on when I'm home and I set up a windows task to shut down my PC at night after I fall asleep.

I am hesitant to use Driver Verifier yet because, after reading what it says, it seems like it can cause my PC to have major issues and

I don't have the cash to spend to get it professionally fixed right now.
Which is partly why I am here -- other than being generally interested in computers.

Hopefully that doesn't put you off too bad from dealing with me =/

FYI - Lot's of people have these concerns, so it's not surprising and it's not a deal breaker :0)

The black screen error is not uncommon after "fixing" a BSOD.

Unfortunately, it's much harder to fix a black screen error than it is to fix a BSOD (there are many, many different reasons for them).

I'd first suggest updating your video drivers to the latest, W10 compatible version available at the AMD driver support website.

Also update all the drivers for your motherboard from the Asus support site for your board.

If none of that works, do you have a System Restore point from before the problem started happening?

Have you tried a RESET using the "Keep My Files" option?

FYI - using Driver Verifier will not damage your computer.

But it may cause problems with booting Windows, and that's why I put all the cautions in that canned speech.

As you know your way around scheduling tasks, that's no more complicated than fixing a boot problem with Driver Verifier.

In most cases you can get back into Driver Verifier and turn it off

If you can't, then the next step is to try to get into Safe Mode and turn it off there.

Then, if you can't do that, you can use a System Restore point to restore the system to a point when Driver Verifier was turned off

And, if all that doesnt' work, then you can edit the registry (that's the part that takes a bit of skill as you have to mount the registry hives and then manually change them).

Here's a blog post on a couple of ways to do it:  https://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-to-edit-windows-registry-key-values-without-booting-in-windows/

Oh okay, that doesn't sound all that bad then.

I do not have a restore point from before this was messed up, because it (seemingly) was messed up since I put this new board in.
But I will set a restore point and try Driver Verifier.

I just found a good resource about updating my bios and I feel comfortable about it now, so I am going to try that.

Should I run the verifier first or update my bios first? That is my only question before I begin.

Run Verifier first.  You want the system as stable as possible before attempting to flash the BIOS.

Here is what my minidump has accumulated since I last posted.

I will be trying to do the things I have left to try on my and my brothers' computers over the next couple of days.

EDIT: Minidump2 is the dmp file that was newly placed in my minidump folder after I failed to boot to windows with Driver Verifier active (I don't know if that IS the Driver Verifier output file, or if that is just a coincidence).

Sorry for the delay.  For some reason I'm not getting notifications.

Verifier blames cmdguard.sys - a driver component of your Comodo Firewall Sandbox

http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=cmdguard.sys

Please uninstall Comodo (temporarily) and see if that stops the BSOD's.

While it's uninstalled, be sure that you enable Windows Defender and the Windows firewall (so that you have protection while testing).

Also, check your Logitech USB video (likely a webcam) and your Logitech headset.

It appears that you've installed older drivers (2009/11 vintage) and they may not be compatible w/W10.
