I'm trying to help someone out with a problem they have:

In both IE6 AND Firefox.. his browser window will close automatically when he tries to view a flash object. No warning, no errors.. it just closes.

He has already reinstalled Flash.

He has already done many many scans for scumware and viruses. no results.

He has scanned his computer for corrupt windows files. nothing.

Any suggestions?

In Internet Explorer try this...go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab - then click on the Restore defaults button at the bottom of the window.

Does this fix it in IE?

Also, you can check the other tabs to see if there's something there that might have been overlooked.

Once you find it in IE - it should be easy to find it in Firefox.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Here's the recap of the things we've tried.

Problem:
Specific browser windows close when you attempt to open them. Possibly those with flash, java, or javascript functionality.

Specs/Software
-gogo data bar
- IE 6.0.2900.2180_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
- Firefox
- 14 months old. Compaq SR1420 NX. Plenty of memory.
- NOT using IEHelper

Errors:
- Problem with flash player and it was necessary to close the window
-Screen saying there's no connection, although, with several tries, I may sometimes get a connection

Attempts:
-All scumware/virus scans find nothing
- Flash test works only by holding down CTRL [http://www.ncrel.org/info/faq/flashtst.htm]
- Flash Uninstaller has been run [http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/]
- Flash 9 reinstalled with no effect
-sfc /scannow did not help
- Unistalled/reinstalled Java - radar loops now work, bearskin works w/ CTRL (w/out=request to load flash 9)
- Safe mode does not help

Original Site Behaviour:
- Search results close automatically [http://www.priceline.com/]
- Long range radar loop closes window [http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mpx/]
- Window closes immediately [http://www.bearskinairlines.com]
- Calendar window closes (except in safe mode) [http://www.suncountry.com]
- Yahoo mail's stationary option & yahoo picture icon dissapear
- youtube plays audio not video via its flash player
- right click (context menu) keeps windows in place if you can click fast

Looking over this list makes me suspect the gogo databar, but you said you used firefox with the same results. Since it isn't browser specific, we can only assume that is a common component between them such as flash or java (both of which you have already re-installed). The fact that one error was cleared by re-installing java components leads us finally to it being the number one suspect I suppose. Is this info all correct up to this point?
