Hi,

Can somebody please assist

approx once a week,Windows???? deletes off my Computer under NETWORK,my netgear media player for which I have a 1tb usb drive & also another Media player called VenusThe only way I know (without doing a restore or use my bacb ups copies)

I use Tweating.com repair Windows & run the whole program

Is there another shorter way to repair Windows (which program is causing it & how do I fix it) or rather than the whole Tweating.com,which section do I use

Please...do NOT use the "QUOTE button" to reply

 

Can you start your laptop in safe mode? The way to do that is start the laptop and repeatedly press the 'F8' button until you get to the 'advanced boot options' screen.  Boot to safe mode and once you are there, you will go to Start menu>accessories>system tools>system restore.  Choose the point before you were having the issue and run the restore. DO NOT STOP OR INTERFERE WITH THE SYSTEM RESTORE ONCE YOU HAVE STARTED IT!  ALLOW IT TO FINISH. 

 

 

Can you download MiniToolBox to the desktop ?? If you can please tick

  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and a Notepad page should show.
Untick any items in Notepad Format then, Copy / Paste your result back here.

 

 

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

 
Please run System File Checker
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
Click on the Start orb and then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.
In the pane above the search box Programs will appear with cmd below it, right click on cmd and select Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.
Type or Copy and paste sfc /scannow in the command prompt note the space between c and /, then press Enter to start the scan.  
If the scan finds no integrity  problems the scan will stop.
This may take 20 minutes to run, so be patient

 

Next when you report back -

Run chkdsk /r ...Follow the instructions HERE for running it from the command prompt.

This will take much longer, 1 to 2 hours must be allowed.
 

 

Please keep us posted with any problems or results..

Hi Jaycan,I just replied to your email (2 of them) as I could not work out how to copy & paste them here( I tried copy & then paste,but nothing

I tried sfc,as a administrator & the screen flashed & that was all

I then tried cmd & when it opened,I typed in sfc/scannow & it stated I had to be administrator (bloody annoying(excuse my french) as I am logged in as administrator

I have typed in in check disk ( C:) it will next time I shut down & restart which I will in approx 5 mins

Hopefully you receive the 2 emails from me

First "Highlight the text" When the text is highlighted you can press the Ctrl button and the C button at the same to copy the text
To Paste the text in your reply, Return to your reply box click near the top and press Ctrl plus the V button.The text will be in your reply box

Thanks,by following your instructions,I was able to do it

The Copy & paste would not work,but the Publish Snapshot & copy to Clipboard did

Chk shows nothing as I clicked Auto fix File system errors & clicked scan for & attempt recovery of bad sectors

But,I did have a bigger problem,after starting to run Tweaking Windows repair,it requested that I run it in Safe mode (i never do it again) after running it in safe mode,the screen came up with log in,but the mouse would not move ( & no sign of it) & therefore could not log in

After Hard reboot,the Computer was locked into Safe Mode

Nothing I could do to get it out of Safe Mode,But I thought I had Acronis Back up + Image of C: (it was hopeless) & thankfully I also had a Windows Image Copy Of C & D : & a repair disc & all was well again

THANK Goodness for backups & how important they are

Do do not think that much about Backups until you really need them which might only be 1 or twice a year

But this little Duck will be doing Complete Backups at least once per week if not twice

Hopefully you can sort out the reat of my Problem

I have not checked on Windows updates,as they are set on auto,BUT I will check on them after this

May I suggest that you use Team Viewer as I have it installed & then you can check out what you need

I just answered all your questions,but apparently I did it the wrong way,so I start again

I have 2 Hard drives in my Computer

1 of C:(500gb Samsung) which is the main operating Drive

The 2nd Hard Drive is D: (999gb Samsung) which I use for Storage

I have 2-Seagate Desktop Expansion Hard Drives (2tb Each)

the 1st is X: for which I use it for copy of J: & W: & copy of 1tb Usb drive not Shown

the 2nd is M: for which I  use for copy of H:,Windows C & D: images  backups

I have 2-Seagate 2 tb St2000 for which are

H: for which I use for copies of Photos in D:'copies of Music D: & Some Movies

W: for which I use for old Movies

The Toshiba 1tb usb  R:Drive I use for Acronis Image of C & D:s

the J: is used for Movies (2TB)

I hope I have covered them all

The Chk was of C: for which I clicked Scan Fix File Systems errors & also Scan for attempt recovery of Bad Sectors

The results was not shown

I hope I have covered all your questions???????

in relation to Team Viewer,I think you live in USA & I live in Australia (warrnambool) you can use Google Maps for Location

This is the simple Copy and Paste that I requested, I am unable to read a copy and paste presented as you have done above..

Please try to follow my instructions, or that by any other Volunteer Helper. This is not my job, we do not get paid, and we all help and programs are free.

 

This is being written late on Saturday night, as I volunteer my time. You only live 3 hours west of my location, as this is a "Multi National" site.

If you wish to repair a computer that is badly outdated, that is not how we work here. All work is open on the forum so senior members will pick up any errors missed by other volunteer helpers.

I repair some local units (at a cost) but NOTHING ever comes off this forum, or the 4 other forums that I help on..

We do not allow support to be provided or requested via personal message, email, or remote desktop control programs (Logmein, TeamViewer, etc).

A line taken from the Forum Rules that you agreed to when you joined. All work is open on the forum so senior members will pick up any errors missed by other volunteer helpers.

 

Once you post an open problem, we will try to help or ask senior (more qualified) volunteers to help us. If that will not suit you, then there are no forums that work like that.

May I suggest that you use Team Viewer as I have it installed & then you can check out what you need

We referred to install date, not age of body or other items, as you either fully or partially installed 6 weeks ago. We were getting to that.
In reference to my Computer is Badly outdated,No it is only a maximum of 2 years old

The term "Badly Outdated" simply meant there were no Microsoft Updates (except 2) showing, so you need Security Updates installed.

 

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Updates, and Select "Check for Updates". Just quickly checked, and my Windows 7 had about 20 this year.

I was also going to ask if the Windows7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 (X64) was "cloned" off another system, reinstalled from your DVDs or a fresh purchase.

 

All of these things make a topic, and we just need you to help us to help you.

 

I think that you have misunderstood our methods, but I am free and any diagnostic / repair programs are free here

Hi,The reason that it Shows that my Edition of Windows 7 Ultimate bit 64 was only installed approx 6 weeks ago is
I HAD WINDOWS 10 INSTALLED and after approx 4-6months later I reckon it is the worst Windows edition ever made by Microsoft

I therefore had my Computer Guy to wife off Windows 10 & re-install (FROM MY Original Windows 7 Ultimate bit 74 Disc)

As far as windows 7 updates,I have the setting install auto,BUT after finishing typing a message on this Forum,I went into & checked for Windows update manually & their was 2 + 4 option upgrades for which I downloaded,1 of the updates did not download successfully  for which I will check on shortly

I also realise that all your intentions are good & again & again,I cannot thank you all for any or all of your assistance

Thank you for feeding us information slowly, but can we start by not mentioning bits after we get half-way into the topic.

 

Now on to a few of your problems. Your constant error is below, and was in 1 CCleaner update / setting.

Details:
The content index catalog is corrupt. (HRESULT : 0xc0041801) (0xc0041801)
------------------------------------------------------------
The Windows Search Service is being stopped because there is a problem with the indexer: The catalog is corrupt.

First -

What you need to do is Fully Delete CCleaner program from Piriform. Go Control panel > Programs and Features > click on it and uninstall it.

Also check in Downloads or Documents. If you have problems removing it, please tell me. I can help with programs..

Piriform Forum admits it in this link. In Post #7 their "Official Bug Fixer" says to update to the latest version.

 

 

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

  • Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process.
  • Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. 
  • Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it may reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

This is a first step and may be a major cause of the problem.

Now post back when you reboot, and tell me if this changes anything.

 

If you reinstall the program later, only use the Generic Cleaner settings and keep away from the Optimizer type settings
