Hi,

I was busy to upgrade a Windows 7 system to Windows 10 and also gained a Windows XP laptop what doesn't boot anymore, even safe modus gives a Blue Screen of Death.

Title of the BSOD: unmoutable_boot_volume

Error code: 0X84344E30

I tried to get a Linux Live USB with Ubuntu to get in the computer and get the data out but even that doesn't work. Is there any option to come in that system to get the data from it?

Thanks in advance.

Download the Parted Magic iso here. Use Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive.See this guide on Parted Magic. On the desktop is a icon called disk health. Open it and do the short and long tests. Look under the attributes tab for any pink or red rows.

Is USB set to the first boot device in BIOS? Some early XP computers can not boot via USB.

Have you tried booting via DVD?

Is the hard drive detected in BIOS?

What is the make and model of the computer?

Hi John,

I know how to make a bootable USB...

Yes the USB is set as first device in the BIOS. We don't have any empty DVD to try and yes the HDD is detected.

Acer 1871 if I'm correct.

See if you can boot with the Parted Magic USB and run the disk check. If not then,if possible, remove the drive and attach it to another computer using a USB enclosure or adapter.

On Acer's you should be able to get a boot menu by tapping F12 at boot to select the USB boot device. If F12 does not work then see if it is enabled in BIOS.

Hi,

Not any USB stick with what kind of bootable program on it let me boot. Should a DVD work?

Also, we tried the F12 function but also no effect.

Yes, try a CD or DVD. I can't guarantee it will work though. Parted Magic will fit on a CD. If you remove the drive to test on another computer you can use an adapter like this.

I'll try a Linux live CD first.

What are you posting from currently, a phone? In order to try and solve the problem you need a computer that can create a bootable CD or USB flash drive.

No, I am afraid not, sorry. You will need to take it to a good computer repair shop if you do not have access to another computer.

Edit: I know of no way to create a bootable flash drive from a phone.
