running windows 10. I keep getting a black screen and nothing works. once in a great while I will also get a screen saying windows encountered and needs to shut down. I've already checked to make sure it's not some kind of malware.

Black screens of Death (also known as KSoD's) are difficult to fix.

There is a combination of things that can cause this - and I've litereally spent weeks trying to fix these (before giving up and wiping the system).

It seems that occasionally you're able to get around it and have your system work.  That's good!

Have you tried setting a System Restore point when the system is working properly, and reverting to that when you have KSoD problems?

Anyhow, let's have a look at these reports and see if we can find anything:

Please run this report collecting tool so that we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location. (By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop)
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.

If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

Yes, it is very possible.  I'd suggest posting over in the Am I Infected forum:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/
Please read the pinned topics at the top of the forum for instructions on how to post there.

Have you posted in the Am I Infected forum?

If they don't find anything wrong, then my suggestions are limited to:

- a Reset of the system using the Keep My Files option

- if that doesn't work, then a Reset of the system using the Remove Everything option (don't forget to backup your stuff first)

- if that doesn't work, then a wipe of the hard drive and a clean install of W10
