I have an HP 2000 series that is stuck in a Preparing to Configure Windows restart loop. I am unable to boot into safe mode because no form of F8 or F12 with shift, or control+alt+delete, will take me to the log in page. I am running Windows 8 on this machine. Any idea how to stop this? I never had any recovery disk, as the operating system came pre-installed.

With HP's you can tap F11 to start recovery operations.

It should give you an option to backup your stuff first.

Followed those directions by pressing F11. It took a little while but then took me to a blue screen for keyboard selection. I clicked on US and it just restarted the computer into the same loop.

On my phone now

Most often this is due to a failing hard drive
Tap Esc when booting and see if your system has built in diagnostics - if so, use them

If they don't work, then you'll have to run bootable diagnostics Here's a link: http://www.carrona.org/initial.html

As it's likely a UEFI based system, you'll likely have to disable Secure Boot and enable CSM/legacy mode in order to boot to the HDD test

If the HDD is dying, you'll also need to order recovery media for the new HDD from HP
