I bought a surface pro 4 last month, fully updated it, and began an overseas deployment a few weeks ago. I'm having a problem connecting to WiFi with then surface pro. Everyone around me are connectong with no issues, and I'm on my phone with no issues typing this now.
I am almost every time getting DNS_probe_ finished_no_internet or DNS_started errors. I have released, it is not just chrome giving me this problem, no other browser or internet applications or updates work.
I have tried every fix found in: kapilarya.com/windows-sockets-registry-entries-required-for-network-connectivity-is missing
To include: flushing DNS/renewing. Windsock netsh reset, deleting winsock in registry and putting new entries in, system restore as far back as possible, deleting internet history and cache, uninstalling network card drivers, reinstalling network card drivers, updating network card drivers. Also many more I'm sure I've forgotten.
By turning network adapter on and off or after restarting the computer I can usually access the internet for 5-10 seconds, usually enough to access a web page and then it quits working again. Running windoes troubleshooting or diagnostic tools usually comes up woth nothing, though it did point me to the winsock error at one point, and currently is telling me the problem found is the default gateway is not available but every time I run it, it is 'fixed'. Also pinging 192.168.1.1 normally times out, if that is helpful.
I'm really at a loss for what to do, and being in a third world country for the foreseeable future is severely hampering my options.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can try? Windows is as updated as I can currently get it , but i was very vigilant in updating before I left.
Thank you for any help or idea you can give.
Edit. Nets winsock reset will sometimes work for a few seconds or so, letting me connect to maybe one page.
