After numerous attempts to install some Windows updates, I am posting the log abstracts to the particular failure in the case of IE 11.  Rather than relate a lengthy history in what may be the wrong forum, I am wondering if any knowledgeable person sees an indication of any infection.  I have not been able to detect one with the tools commonly available.

Prior to this attempted installation of IE 11, I set User Account Control Settings to the lowest level of security, turned off Norton anti-virus, spyware protection and firewall, downloaded a fresh .exe for the proper IE 11update (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1) and applied it one more time.  It tried to install one or more times, getting to the 98% monitored installation level, but ultimately reverting to IE 9 again.

I immediately went to C:\Windows and printed the log files from both IE 11_main and Windowsupdate.  Abstracts of both followed.  I don't see anywhere to attached documents to this posting, so I must include the minimum amount of text in the body of this post to present my question.

Abstract of C:\Windows\IE 11_Main:

02:36.891: INFO:    Process exit code 0x00000BC2 (3010) [The requested operation is successful. Changes will not be effective until the system is rebooted. ]

06:16.072: INFO:    Setup exit code: 0x00000BC2 (3010) - Installation Succeeded. Reboot required.
06:16.072: INFO:    Cleaning up temporary files in: C:\Windows\TEMP\IE11B8B.tmp
06:16.197: INFO:    Unable to remove directory C:\Windows\TEMP\IE11B8B.tmp, marking for deletion on reboot.
06:16.197: INFO:    Rebooting computer...
06:16.228: INFO:    Released Internet Explorer Installer Mutex

I am wondering if the statement: Unable to remove directory C:\Windows\TEMP\IE11B8B.tmp ..... is the cause for the failed installation, and if so, whether it is a sign of malware.

Between the installation effort(s) and the reversion(s) to IE 9, the computer ground away for 1-2 hours as I recall.  I have abstracted the last 2.5 hours of time-stamped history from the Windowsupdate log as follows:

From the mid-point of this abstract to the end, there are comments regarding failures and Warnings.  I do not know the significance of these and whether they are a sign of potential malware infections.

If these are indications of registry problems or otherwise, without the evidence of malware, please point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Perhaps I should post this additional information in this original post:

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/391544-repeated-ie-11-install-failures.html

Folks at Windows Sevenforums could not help and there is increasing evidence that my computer has been compromised.
