I was hoping someone could give me a list of step by step instructions you use as a guide to clean virus, malware...etc. so I can keep my PC clean if it gets infected.

I suggest you to start reading some topics in this forum or visiting other websites found searching with google. Internet is full of step by step guide to do what you asked. Try and let us know if you find something interesting! :)

Your goal should be to avoid getting infected rather than how to clean your PC after it gets infected.  Prevention is better than cure.  To this end, educating yourself is probably the best thing you can do.  In this regard, our own quietman7 has put together one of the most comprehensive write-up I have ever seen.  You could hardly do better than read it...
