Hello guys. Hope you can help me out here. So I'm going to start off with basic info about my system.

Alienware 15

8gb Ram

1 Tb Hdd

I upgraded to Windows 10 sometime around late September.  Its given me a couple issues before but a restart and break usually fixed it up. Now, a couple days ago I started getting just about every error possible. Ten or twenty restarts usually did the trick. Now for the past two days every time it boots I get the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error and then itll restart into the repair options.

Some things to note...

I cannot get into safe mode as it'll give me the same error.

I'm pretty sure my HDD is fine as I can still access all my files using a live Kali Linux usb.

If I attempt to run the sfc /scannow from cmd in repair mode, it'll see there's a system repair pending.

So pretty sure it's something wrong with Windows itself.

Please help!!!! I need this laptop for school and a clean install would delete all of my files. I would upload the files, but obviously I cant get into windows at all lol.

Thank you.

I am not sure but can't you upload your files using a live linux disk? Linux Mint Cinnamon or Ubuntu should work. Both should pick up your NIC or Wireless card. Then do the clean install.

A clean install of Windows 10 is the best way to go.

Sorry, my mistake. Somebody here with Windows 10 experience should be able to help. In the Troubleshooting Options does it let you do a System Restore?

Nope. It says it cannot detect any. I thought I had made one but I guess not.

If you can't get into Windows, then the only files that you can gather (that we need) are the memory dumps

Zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and upload them with your next post.

Beyond that, start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Start with the hard drive diagnostics.

You can access startup repair with the W10 installation media:  http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.html

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

This was the only file in the folder. I'm not sure how much help this will be.

Well, the lone memory dump is strongly suggestive of a hard drive problem.

The first step is to backup all of your stuff immediately - if the hard drive dies on you, it'll be very expensive to have a pro recover it.

Then run these free hardware diagnostics (starting with the HDD tests):  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Arg 4 of the BSOD error code shows a c0000185.  That is a STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR - onother indicator that the hard drive may be failing.

No information on the BIOS/UEFI version, so no idea if it needs to be updated or not.

So all diagnostics I was able to run have detected no problems with my hard drive or anything elde physically. I even ran the built in diagnostics which took like 3 hours and it found no problems. Im really confused as to whats the problem now.

The possibilities are:

- a low-level driver (either 3rd party or Windows) is causing the problem.

- an undiscovered hardware error is causing the problem

- a compatibility issue is causing the problem

- a Windows corruption is causing the problem.

I'd suggest that you perform a clean install of Windows to see if the system behaves properly.

This must include:

- all Windows Updates

- only update the devices in Device Manager that have problems

- use Windows Defender and the Windows firewall

- DO NOT install anything else.

I also suggest that you backup your data prior to trying this - as the clean install will wipe everything out.

If you clean install the previous OS, you can test for problems with it before updating to W10

That will then help to tell if there's a compatibility issue (if the problems resurface after updating to W10).

Good luck!
