More-or-less random freezes, startup failures.

As of a few days ago, my desktop has been freezing completely while I'm playing games. At this point, I don't even try to play anything because I know it will happen again.

The graphics of the computer while cease, while still allowing audio (Like Skype) to function. But I am forced to manually shut down, because I cannot do anything.

 

When I try to start my computer back up, it often loads up the desktop, but doesn't allow me to use the mouse, and all icons are not functional. Essentially still frozen.

Sometimes the screen simply comes up black, and I have to restart again.

 

I have tried a few different things. I've tried several scans for viruses and nothing has come up. I did a System Restore the first time this happened, and it was fine for about a day until it happened again, during another game. Even when I try things such as Safe Mode, it will freeze up and not allow for any action. The way I have been "fixing" this thus far is restarting my computer in repeat until it begins to function. This is obviously not a good long term solution. I really have no idea what this could be, if it's a hardware problem or perhaps something I downloaded (I don't think so)? By the way, I've had this computer for about 5 months now, on Windows 7 OS.

 

Specs: AMD FX™-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3500Mhz

8 GB of memory

64-bit OS

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

Safe Mode, it will freeze up and not allow for any action

If it still crashes in Safe Mode, it is most likely a system file or low-level hardware failure. I suggest that you test your memory, then your HDD (or SSD) and if those test as good, contact the retailer or manufacturer if it is still under warranty. But...do not let your warranty expire before you submit a claim.
