Whenever I run a System Diagnostics Report for Windows 10, there is always a warning like this:

"Investigate why 13% (5,128) events were lost during data collection. The settings for Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) maximum buffers and buffer size may not be optimal depending on which data sets are being collected."

I have searched in vain for understandable guidance about how to determine if the ETW settings and buffer size are the problem and how to fix this.

I  would appreciate a response geared for someone who is not a geek (but has aspirations!).

Thank you.

What version of windows are you using? (version name, service pack level, and architecture (23bit/64bit))

Does the computer exhibit any other strange behavior? Otherwise I would think this is no cause for alarm.

There are seemingly random issues/crashes that could happen with any computer.   I don't know if any of them are significant.

More insights would be appreciated, especially about the following:

  1. Are you suggesting that resolving these errors is so complicated that it is not worth the effort?
  2. The messages say that events are being lost during data collection.  Does this not mean that several events are not being logged?  If so, isn't there a way to make sure that they are logged?
  3. The messages mention changing the buffer size.  Is that not possible or feasible?

Thank you.

I am not sure what could be causing this.. I recommend going over to the windows 10 forum and starting a topic there.

My apologies.  I had no idea that this was posted to "internal hardware."  Certainly didn't do that intentionally.

I will repost in the Windows 10 forum.
