While not 100% certain, the most likely culprit is your Symantec/Norton protection.

Please uninstall it, then run the free Norton Removal Tool from here:  http://www.carrona.org/avuninst.html

Then ensure that Windows Defender is activated and see if that stops the BSOD's

Please also uninstall your Western Digital software.  The wdcsam64.sys driver dates from 2008 and is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Why didn't you install those 3 updates?

Please zip up and upload the contents of C:\Windows\Minidump

If you have problems zipping it, please copy it to your Desktop and zip it from there.

Originally hid those 3 updates because they hung every time I tried to install. Went back and successfully installed all 3. When I try to zip Minidump (either by folder or indiv. files) I get the following error message: "File not found or no read permission"

Have you tried copying them to your Desktop, and then zip them from there?

If you still can't zip them, upload them to a free file-hosting service (like OneDrive or DropBox), make sure that they're shared, and then post a link to them here.

Not a problem, we've got them now! :0)

Please remember to turn Driver Verifier off.

To do this, open up verifier.exe and select "Delete existing settings", then click on the "Finish" button.

Then reboot for the changes to take effect.

Uninstall MalwareBytes (temporarily)

If you're reinstalled it, uninstall Norton again (temporarily) - Norton was blamed in the March 4 memory dump

Ensure that Windows Defender and the Windows firewall are working.

Monitor for further BSOD's

If the BSOD's continue after that, then we'll have to start troubleshooting the networking.

The first step there is to reinstall all networking drivers (wifi, wired, bluetooth), then test for further BSOD's

  • When I open up verifier.exe, a command prompt window flashes momentarily then disappears. That's it.
  • I uninstalled Malwarebytes, and Sysmantic/Norton is still uninstalled.
  • Windows Defender: real-time protection is on; virus and spyware definitions are up-to-date. Currently running scan.

How are you opening verifier.exe?

I suggest that you press the "Win" key and the "R" key at the same time to open up the Run dialog

Type "verifier" (without the quotes) and press "Enter"

That should open the Driver Verifier Manager window.

If it doesn't, then there's other problems that need fixing :(

OK, Driver Verifier is turned off. After restarting, I got a black screen and needed to power down and restart.

On another note, I received a password security breach message from Amazon today. When I replied asking for more information, this was their reply:

-----Original Message-----

Subject: Your Amazon.com Account Inquiry

Hello,

We've asked you to reset your password again because we believe your updated password has been captured by a malware program on the computer you used to reset your password. We're not able to provide the exact source or website that captured your information.

A Windows Defender scan did not return any malicious files. Is there something else I can try to search for malware?

Could you be infected?  It's possible that malware has corrupted your current protection, so please try a couple of these, independent scans (from this link: https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA15-286A ).  This is in case your current protection is compromised by malware and giving false results:

           F-Secure
           https://www.f-secure.com/en/web/home_global/online-scanner (link is external)

           McAfee
           http://www.mcafee.com/uk/downloads/free-tools/stinger.aspx (link is external)

           Microsoft
           http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx (link is external)

           Sophos
           https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/virus-removal-tool.aspx (link is external)

           Trend Micro
           http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (link is external)

The above are examples only and do not constitute an exhaustive list. The U.S. Government does not endorse or support any particular product or vendor.
If you do find infections, I'd suggest posting over in the Am I Infected forum to ensure that all the bad stuff has been removed:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/
Please read the pinned topics at the top of the forum for instructions on how to post there.

After that, we wait and see what happens.

If the system continues to BSOD or to give black screens, post back and we'll work on trying to fix them.

Good luck!
