Well I have this problem with my windows XP pro.: if I go in the Search or User Acount menu, the windows does open but nothing aperas, in the User Acount menu only 3 buttons(forward, back, home),and all the rest of the window is white.
Same thing happens in safe mode.
I bould be happy if someone could help me because I need to creat a new user acount.
By the way - at our weekendhouse I have my old Pentium I with 166Mhz - I only use it for music listening - will XP work on it, because I would like to put my hard drive from my P4 in it, but on the PI I have Win98 SE and the Hard drive from the P4 is NTFS formatted - so it won't run with 98SE ???

Hi Robi1331, welcome to BC.
You'll want to start by re-registering a few dll's.
Click Start>Run. Copy and paste the commands below in the run dialog box, one at a time and click ok after each. You should receive a succesful confirmation after each one as well. If you do not, or receive an error, take note of which ones and post them back here.

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 nusrmgr.cpl
regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

By the way - at our weekendhouse I have my old Pentium I with 166Mhz - I only use it for music listening - will XP work on it,

Nadda.

It is doubtful that Windows XP will work on a PI.
Unless you have a retail version of XP and you removed it from the computer on which it was first activated and could prove that to Microsoft you couldn't use it even if the old computer could run it - which it cannot. It wouldn't authenticate.

You can't just move a hard drive with Windows installed on it from one computer to another because the registry would be completely wrong - set up for the computer it was in - so that wouldn't work even on a computer that was capable of running XP.

Minimum Requirements for XP

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Home Edition
PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features) (you really need 512 MB for it to function above a crawl)
1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*
Super VGA (800 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Even if it would work (which I doubt) the music would sound horrible because the P1 can't process it as fast as it was designed to be played.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
