Does anyone here use, or is familiar with the toshiba canvio external hard drive?

Yes.  I have 2 Canvio Basics hard drives.  What do you want to know?

Mine came with the nti software on it, i'm assuming that's a backup program. Is that correct? I don't have a quick install guide & toshiba support doesn't recognize my model.

My hard drives did not come with NTI.  However, I did a quick search and found this tutorial from Toshiba.  Does it look like what you are looking for?  BTW, just because it came with NTI doesn't mean you have to use it.  For example, I prefer to use Macrium Reflect Free.
