[Answers are in brackets.]

· OS - Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista ? [Windows 10]
· x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? [x64]
· What was original installed OS on system? [Windows 8.1]
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? [OEM version]
· Age of system (hardware) [1 month]
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? [2 days ago, Windows 8.1 was upgraded to Windows 10. Laptop 1 month old and came preinstalled with Windows 8.1]

· CPU [Intel® Core™ i7-4940MX CPU @ 3.10GHz (8CPUs), ~2.1GHz]
· Video Card [two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M]

· System Manufacturer [Alienware]
· Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) [Alienware 18]
· Laptop or Desktop? [Laptop]

My new laptop has been freezing periodically and I can't quite pin down why. Some extra info: When the freeze occurs, my mouse cursor disappears and the screen freezes still as-is. The sound loops whatever note it was making when the freeze occurs. Moving the mouse and hitting any keys or key-combinations (such as ctrl-alt-del) does nothing. The only thing I can do is hold the power button to turn it off and then boot it back up without issue. While it freezes randomly, I have found a few occurences where it always freezes, such as when opening Open Broadcast Software Multiplatform, or after 10 seconds of streaming on the non-Multiplatform Open Broadcast Software. Interestingly, this freeze did not occur after switching to onboard graphics, and then started occurring again after switching back to the video cards.

Any info you could give me would help, thanks in advance.

Hi. . .

I see that Windows was installed (or the initial system boot - new system) occurred on 1 February 2016.  You began experiencing BSODs that same day. The zip attachment contained 8 BSOD kernel minidump files.

Worse yet - the bugchecks on the dumps is 0x124 - WHEA - Windows Hardware Error Architecture, a/k/a Machine Check Exception; otherwise known as "unknown hardware failure".

Given the age of the system (a few days old...?), I would take it back and demand another system.  Otherwise, I believe that you'll likely have problems with this system for life.

The probable cause is truly "UNKNOWN" hardware failure - it could be anything. Don't let the retailer talk you into letting them try and fix this system - DEMAND A NEW ONE! I can't emphasize this enough.

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

EDIT:  Also, there appears to be a problem with the system clock, possibly CMOS, as every file in the zip attachment had a timestamp = 1/1/1980 12:00 AM
