I just did a clean install of windows not two days. I installed my favorite game and started to play. About a half hour in my computer freezes and a gray screen with vertical lines gets stuck on the monitor. If a sound was being played on the computer then that gets stuck in a loop with the freeze as well. I have to hard restart the computer to get it back running. Ctrl-alt-delete etc, does not work. I have been able to replicate the issue using the FurMark GPU bench test, within 20 seconds of running the bench test I got the same freeze. I checked the voltages from the PSU in BIOS and everything looked fine on there. Windows is throwing a critical error 41 with the source being Kernel-Power. At this point my gut is telling me it's a faulty video card. I'm using the 7870XT right now. The video card is running at it's stock settings. No overclock. I also have updated to the latest Crimson drivers for the card yesterday. Anybody know what's going on? Thanks for any help!

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Sounds like a faulty video card. Does the integrated graphics have the same problem?

Boot into Safe Mode to see if this problem persists there.

 

What is the make and model of the PSU you are using?

Hey guys. I think I solved the issue. I reverted the drivers back to an older version and so far I've not had any issues. I am replicating everything I did before to crash the computer and it's been fine. Weird that new drivers would cause an issue like this.

This just goes to prove that it's not always a good idea to update to a newer driver when the original fails.  Sometimes it is better to assume that the driver is corrupt and download the same driver from the manufacturer's website.
