HP elitebook 8460p (which is new) has 1X 2.0 (works fine) has 2X 3.0 ports My 3.0 ports are listed in my device manager and I can charge through them. But the computer doesn't see flash drives. I don't know if the ports are disabled or need drivers or something else. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you Louis
I have downloaded Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Drive but windows automatically loads Intel ® 6 Series/C200 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller 1C26 and Intel ® 6 Series/C200 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller 1C2D. The Renesas controller is in my program list, and I have uninstalled the Intel drivers and rebooted, but Win just reinstalls Intel drivers

I got one screen that says
USB Composite Device w/ green checkmark “Ready to use”
USB Receiver X Devise unplugged
USB Receiver X Devise unplugged
USB Receiver X Devise unplugged
What does this mean? Can the ports be unconected to the motherboard?

Check that the usb 3.0 cable isn't loose- I sure wish those things had a lock!
Check for bent or missing pins in the socket. There should be 5.

Is the flash drive you are trying to use compatible with 3.0 USB ports?

This flash drive should be rated as USB 3.0 type A.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

It looks like you have something installed that's causing strange things to happen like that  0x80070643 in Windows Update and this Error: (01/26/2016 10:11:18 AM) (Source: WinMgmt) (User: )

Description: //./root/CIMV2SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 990x80041003.

So I'd back up anything I didn't want to lose and restore to factory settings.  The procedure for doing that is documented in your user guide.

By the way I use USB 2 flash drives in my USB 3 and USB 2 ports all the time without problem.  USB 3 flash drives work in both as well with both.

Good luck.

Make regular full system backups or you'll be sorry sooner or later.
