I started to use glasswire and came up about ten entries in glasswire stating my dns server changed from 192.168.1.1 to fec0:0:0:0ffff:1 I recently bought a new router rt-ac68u and updated to the latest firmware, and this is still going on. Is there anything troubling in my computer that needs to be addressed? Attached File  DNS server issues.png   196.82KB   0 downloads

Hello eptesicus

A few items ; First ,

Are you talking about a fixed Desktop unit or do you also use a laptop / notepad, and is this the only computer in the house / unit ?

I am on my laptop, so it is a bit hard to see those numbers in any sequence, and I will just ask you.

Have you recently changed your ISP or used a USB Dongle to browse from ?
Next have you or any computers in the house used a "Free ISP" like shops / Shopping centers (McDonalds for instance) Skype or airports ?
To follow up are you near enough to be affected by a free ISP outlet as described above (I noticed mine alter now that I also use a USB) ?

Please complete the following to help with some information>>

Download Security Check from Here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • If your computer refuses to run it, or you get a danger message, I know the certificate is out of date.
  • Just disable your Antivirus, or reboot and run again.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.back here.

Please download MiniToolBox to your Desktop to run it.
Check following boxes:
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
  • List Restore Points
  • Click Go and Copy and Paste the output. Result txt. Note:this will take a few minutes to run

You can post a snapshot with Speccy for more system details -
How to Publish a snapshot with Speccy <<-- Read the Full Directions Here (only Copy / Paste the link)

Not just the first bit, but the Full Link (this takes about 2 minutes to load )..

These 3 programs along with your answers should supply a lot more information.

Thank You..

My problem is in a Desktop unit. I haven't changed my isp ever since. And never used my computer in free isp. But maybe some of my brothers went to free isp's for their college homework. I am not near enough to a free isp in my home network too. Well for speccy the last two pictures in tutorial didnt load so i dunno how to use speccy but i managed to get the two other programs running. here it is

Have you tried to statically set the DNS and run that utility again?

I think I'd try to take care of the apparently damaged user profile before fiddling with anything else...it may be "the problem".

If there is a profile issue, generally there will be a .bak instance in the Registry/profile. Renaming the current profile to .tmp and removing the .bak from the other instance can correct that, if that is the case. You should also be able to create a new profile for the purpose of testing.

I made a new account but so far i have one question so far with my step of copying files to new account.. Do you need to have Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini in every user account? they say to exclude these but i haven't found any even with show hidden files, folders, and drives option selected. Thanks in advance

Please..follow the instructions provided by Microsoft.

The files you mentioned are system files...which (probably) will be generated automatically by the system, as needed.

After doing this professionally for over 30 years, on thing I've learned with Microsoft - an operating system can be corrupted without a user even doing anything wrong.

If it is rather simple to back up data and reinstall software/printers, reload the OS and you know that you're working with a clean slate. If it still has problems after reload the OS, you likely have a hardware problem.
