Hey,

If I've posted a link mods can please remove[or edit down enough so others searching can find it without harm] if not allowed.

A few days ago, I clicked on a website link when I was browsing an article on slate.com, and it opened the link to what I had clicked on but I think that linked site also opened up a new window "WARNING VIRUS CHECK MICROSOFT" and also had an alarm bell sounding.

This was the new window / pop up link

s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws com/polio91/alert.html?browser=firefox&os=Windows%208.1&num=1-800-990-791&c=supaus

kt9267 com or paid.outbrain com one of them may have triggered it I think thator thats where it came from after clicking a link from a site. Anyway, the link had a number to call but I didn't call it. I also had no dramas closing the new pop up window. I did not need to use task manager to close it.

However, later on couple of hours later, I was on okcupid and the browser redirected and or pop up a few times to

onlinerewards.xyz/au/500/Woolworths_61/?city=[edited]&model=desktop&isp=[edited] etcetc

val.dntrax.com/tr?id=220650b0736dd55d97221166601fdbeaac23583d.p&tk=eyJ0e etc

Claiming to be a woolworths[supermarket] $500 gift card.

Had no dramas closing that either.

I did a search, and I think okcupid does use scripts for some of their ads, I have had redirects when using it on my mobile ages ago way before just a few days ago.... some of the okcupid forums also talk about having redirects in their browser, so this could be just a co incidence for me.

Before the okcupid redirect, I ran Malwarebytes, found nothing. Ran Adware cleaner, found nothing. Ran Junkware Removal Tool, found nothing. Ran Hitman pro x64 and it found nothing I didn't know about[beta build of a game installer] other than tracking cookies. When I was using okcupid a second time that night, after Malwarebytes, it did redirect again and Malware caught it a few times. But last few days, zero redirects. Okcupid could be a coincidence. No pop ups or redirects on any other sites either.

Just checked history for kt9267 and there is something there for 3 days before the slate.com link click, which I am assuming the pop up or whatever from there was just a normal ad and I closed it no dramas.

So, my thoughts are that, I might have gotten lucky as I've searched and others with that similar s3-ap amazonaws com may have gotten infected, perhaps mine was just a pop up. But in case, I haven't done any online sensitive log ins.

If necessary, I'm happy to use DBAN to wipe the SSD and just do a new install. That would guarantee things and also save time. My question I guess, is I have a usb plugged into the usb drive, I scanned that with Malwayrebytes and found nothing, but I can't scan it with anything other programs I've mentioned so far and me being paranoid or thinking of every possible way, could something have gotten in there as well? eg keyloggers or something. I also might have had my phone plugged into another usb port, but I can't scan it as it doesn't show up as a "drive". I don't use my phone much for internet, and it hasn't done anything weird.

Again, could be mountain out of molehill here lol.

I don't run anti virus, just windows firewall and an secondary router firewall. I am thinking of running an antirus in future, used to a year ago but anyway.

Welcome aboard p22002758.gif

p22002970.gif First of all you have to have some AV program.

Install ONE of these:

- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

- free Microsoft Security Essentials: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials
Note for Windows 8 users: Microsoft Security Essentials comes preinstalled and renamed as Windows Defender.
You can keep it or you have to disable it before installing another AV program.  How to...

- free Comodo Antivirus: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/antivirus.php

p22002970.gif Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Windows Vista, 7 or 8 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.

  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets.
Do NOT use spoilers.
Do NOT edit your reply to post additional logs. Create new reply. I'll not get any email notifications about edits so I won't know you posted something new.

Thankyou for your reply :)  I have run the programs and have log files. I had a quick look, I think it was the MTB log that has my physical IP address, IPv6 address, default gateway etc, should I edit any of those parts out at all before posting?

Update Firefox to the current version.

Your computer is clean p3879546.jpg

1. This step will remove all cleaning tools we used, it'll reset restore points (so you won't get reinfected by accidentally using some older restore point) and it'll make some other minor adjustments...
This is a very crucial step so make sure you don't skip it.
Download 51a5ce45263de-delfix.pngDelFix by Xplode to your desktop. Delfix will delete all the used tools and logfiles.

Double-click Delfix.exe to start the tool.
Make sure the following items are checked:

  • Activate UAC (optional; some users prefer to keep it off)
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create registry backup
  • Purge System Restore
  • Reset system settings

Now click "Run" and wait patiently.
Once finished a logfile will be created. You don't have to attach it to your next reply.

2. Make sure Windows Updates are current.

3. If any trojans, rootkits or bootkits were listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

4. Check if your browser plugins are up to date.
Firefox - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
other browsers: https://browsercheck.qualys.com/ (click on "Scan without installing plugin" and then on "Scan now")

5. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

6. Run Malwarebytes "Quick scan" once in a while to assure safety of your computer.

7. Run Temporary File Cleaner (TFC), AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) weekly (you need to redownload these tools since they were removed by DelFix).

8. Download and install Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI): http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/. The Secunia PSI is a FREE security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Run it weekly.

9. (optional) If you want to keep all your programs up to date, download and install FileHippo Update Checker.
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases.

10. When installing\updating ANY program, make sure you always select "Custom " installation, so you can UN-check any possible "drive-by-install" (foistware), like toolbars etc., which may try to install along with the legitimate program. Do NOT click "Next" button without looking at any given page.

11. Read:
How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html
Simple and easy ways to keep your computer safe and secure on the Internet: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/keep-your-computer-safe-online/

12. Please, let me know, how your computer is doing.

I was on okcupid and it was fine most of the time last few days, and then 2 days ago it redirected to freegame3 com or something. I'm guessing this is just okcupid running script style of ads on the odd occasion?

Skype had someone want to add me from another country that I don't know and was not expecting, that's just perhaps a bot on the other end doing that through contact list, not on my local end?

Reset Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems

If the above didn't help...

Uninstall Firefox completely using this manual: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer
NOTE. Use MozBackup: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ to backup your bookmarks and passwords. Do NOT backup anything else.
Install fresh copy.

I've reset firefox shall see how I go. I shall now look at updating firefox to latest version as well.

I also blocked the request on skype.

With the pop up advertisement in my first post, do I need to worry about keyloggers from that? Someone was saying that link below doesn't rely on "definitions" to pick up keyloggers?

http://www.anti-keylogger.net/support.html

But if you see, on the right hand side in that link, an affiliate? of theirs also sells legit keylogger from spy-lantern. So I don't know if it would pick up it's possible affiliate product in searching or not, but yeah, do I need to worry about keyloggers from a simple pop up window/advertisement described in my first post[or from okcupid ones I guess as well]?
