Start with a dell precision M6400 or the like that will support The core 2 extreme. it looks like i can a breabones used one for about $50.

It looks like I can buy a qx9650 for about $70 used on Amazon or a QX9775 for the same.

Adding 16gb or ram and a ssd should bring me up to about $300 and I like the dell equipment. It's easy to work on and they are pretty bulletproof. I like that this can also hold two hard drives.

My question is this... the laptop spec sheet says it takesUp to 16GB3 of high bandwidth dual-channel 1066MHz DDR3 memory

But the QX9650 is 1333mhz and the QX9775 is 16000mhz.

I know it will work with lower mhz ram, but if I get ram faster than what the sheet says will it make the system faster? Can I use 1600mhs ram and get the benefit?

Also, I have owned half a dozen latitudes and they are tanks, are the Dell precision also sturdy?

Bueler? Anyone?

Does cpu qx9775 of 1600mhz mean I should use 1600mhz Ram?
