Why would my start menu work when I boot up...then stop working a few minutes later? It was just happening at update time and wiuld be fine after but there are no updates to install atm. Should I still try the command prompt fix? I get that disappearing taskbar icons problem sometime too .

Somewhat confusing question. Perhaps you could try explaining the problem more specifically. Does the start menu work after 10 minutes or so?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. And the icon issue pops up occasionally if I reboot or sign out/in.

What happened immediately before problem? What security software is installed?

It mostly happens when there are updates to install although last night it was doing it without any updates being ready. Last night all I did was boot up and I was using Chrome. It wouldn't let me paste something so I tried Edge but the icon didn't work on my task bar.
I installed 10 when I got the update stuff, is that what you mean?
I have Avast free, Defender and Malwarebytes free. Ccleaner is there but I quit using it after being advised here. There's Winpatrol and that software update notifier whose name Im blank on atm.

Is your problem similar to this one? I left a few links in there for you to look at. Seems you're not alone.

Yeah I saw that. Guess I'll have to try that command stuff when it happens again then.

Ok am going to see now that it's working right if the power shell helped. It was good last night. I'll edit this reply if not.
