Here is a piece of info in windows log:

SkypeUpdate service is shutting down due to idle timeout.

==============================================

The computer is Sony Vaio PCG-41411L laptop running Windows 8.0 with 8GB/630GBHD,

We reinstalled the Skype after uninstalling and deleting the app directory. But the problem remains the same. Also on the same computer, QuickBook Pro 2009 freezes often or even can not be started (hung and never finishing launching process). One of friends said that the computer was affected by virus. Is there any way I can fix these? Thanks.

Uninstall the program that contains the AMD PowerXpress Vista program.

I have a similar DLL on my system, and all I have is video drivers installed.

So, if that's your case - uninstall the AMD Catalyst stuff (and any other AMD stuff) from Control Panel...Programs and Features.

See if that helps (the system should use default drivers for the AMD card.

If that stops the problem, then visit the Vaio support website and download a fresh set of AMD video drivers and install them.

After uninstalling AMD catalyst Manager (I think) from control panel, the Skype and QuckBook Pro start to work fine. I will keep default driver and see what is going to happen. Many thanks.
