This is a pretty broad question.  Here is a short video I did explaining some of the basics of SEO. https://youtu.be/lycqll5WyMo

Of course this shall depend on several factors; How is your site's SEO dynamics currently and how do you want it to be  like? I've seen people pay even upto $3 for a single backlink or a singnature link. You need to sit down and come up with a strategy of doing this, then that way you'll be in a position to knnow just how much you may have to spend, depending on what ways you use. One thing is for sure though;it's usually a costly affair

I know from personal experience that all expenses for SEO pays off. The more money invested in SEO, the better the result.

$3. charming=) Some links may cost hundreds and thousands of $ to build.

Also, a lot of people may believe they are doing "free seo" by writing posts and building links themselves. But they forget that the time is money and in some cases it's cheaper to order the article for guest post (for example) than to write it yourself.

What ever you pay to the SEO company for your application make sure that you hire the company that has good reputation. And they do not use Black Hat SEO techniques or in other words the techniques that are considered illegal by the searching engines. The illegal techniques might help in increasing the website Rank for some time but it will become useless after a period of time. Make sure that the company you hire use legal techniques which will help your website to maintain the rank for longer period of time. Most of the Black hat seo techniques have become useless but soon google will launch a new update on spams that will disable most of the Black Hat SEO techniques.
