Need advice upgrading to i7 Quad core

I have Msi MB H55M-E23 i5-650 (Dual core i guess)

And wanted to upgrade to a i7 quad core cpu, something better than what i have if is wort it or just buying a new motherboard and cpu combo!? (intel)

That's a fairly old i5. I'd say just upgrade both, especially if you have a microcenter nearby.

Hmm, no microcenter here by me... but i do have fry's electronics and not sure who has best prices...and fry's i don't think they have a combo deal witch normally is cheaper .

 

Also not sure if a $200 what i can get when it comes to a motherboard and cpu to choose.

Also, you MIGHT need to buy a new copy of Windows for your new motherboard/CPU combo, so keep that expense in mind.

You'll have to do the revert first, but in theory yes

Then the OP would have to buy a copy of Windows 7, which isn't a bad idea because it is cheaper than another copy of Windows 10.

If you have a Win 7 key you can now install Win 10 directly and use your Win 7 key to activate. This wasn't the case when Win 10 first came out by Microsoft made this change a few months ago. You can create a Win 10 installation disk using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Yes, i have original purchased Window 7 Ultimate Key.
