I have used this free antivirus on a number of machines for quite some time

I upgraded on machine to Windows 10, and installed Bitdefender with no apparent problems.

I was told a few times that bitdefender was not compatible with win 10, but I persisted.

Upon opening a topic here in BC dealing with a damn annoying "freeze' that this particuolar machine will do.....I was advised to uninstall bitdefender, as that may be one of the possible causes.

Fair enough...I did that....allowed windows defender to take over. (it did nothing to alter the 'freeze"...it still exists to this day )

Just today, I have gone on a concentrated search and......Bitdefender is NOT....repeat NOT compatible with Windows 10

From the Bitdefender website....

Operating Systems required for running all your Bitdefender products (Windows based, MAC OS, Android devices)

Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition

  •     Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (32-bit)
  •     Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (32-bit & 64-bit)
  •     Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (32-bit & 64-bit)
  •     Windows 8 (32-bit & 64-bit)
  •     Windows 8.1 (32-bit & 64-bit)

Am i right in 'assuming' that most if not all other 'free' Av's are compatible with Windows 10 ??

Come on Bitdefender......whats the story ????....Are you going to get your act together ??

According to AV-Comparatives, avast! Free and Panda Free are both compatible with Windows 10, and these two are popular free Antivirus. Also, AVG also advertise their products to be Windows 10 compatible.

Sophos Home is not on the AV-Comparatives list since it is relatively new, but it's free and also compatible with Windows 10.

I can confirm that avast! Free works properly on win10... Though I have had issues installing drivers while it was running on occasion.

Just learned about this earlier this week. It looks really interesting, I'll be installing it on a VM this weekend to mess around with it! I love Sophos and their NakedSecurity blog (on top of their YouTube channel) and they do have really nice business-grade products, so I'm curious to see how their free Antivirus for the home user performs :)
