I didnt know where else to post this, sorry if its in the wrong section.  Here goes.

Bought a evga gtx 970, it wouldn't work with my system, no display, update bios, get it running, get into windows, no sound.

I have done litterally everything i can think.  I need help at this point.  I'm trying to get the onboard audio to work.

Heres what i've tried.

Check to make sure bios has onboard audio on.

Disable nvidia hdmi audio

uninstall nvidia hdmi audio.

wipe realtek and reinstall.

wipe realtek and reinstall useing mobo drivers

wipe realtek and reinstall useing windows 7 mobo drivers.

disable/reenable audio in bios

wipe all audio programs and devices completely and install only realtek

wipe all audio programs and devices completely and install only mobo drivers.

wipe all audio programs and devices completely and let windows automatically install.

Check to make sure speakers are not dead (connected to a phone)

plugged in headphones to both the back and front ports (no sound at all).

disable front ports and only enable back ports.

flashed bios to beta 4801 bios

and yes the audio jack is plugged into the correct lime green slot.  I also tried other devices, headphones and speakers.

threw bleep at the wall.

When i have realtek audio manager installed it doesnt show anything being plugged in, sound says audio is not plugged in.  Device manager shows everything is ok.

I'm all out of ideas and incredibly frustrated.

please see attachments for any and all information i can provide.

I feel like if i can get the system to let me just default the speakers, i will get sound, but it says they are not plugged in and i cant edit or do bleep to them in anyway.

Please run this report collecting tool so that we can provide a complete analysis (even though you're not reporting BSOD's):  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.
By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.

Your 4801 BIOS/UEFI dates from 2014.  I wonder about it being suitable for W10.

Asus offers a few W10 drivers for your system - have you updated ALL of them?

Only 4 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most build 10586 (TH2/1511) systems have more than this.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available Windows Updates.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen both dtsoftbus01.sys and dtscsibus.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration):  New link (15 Aug 2012):  http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link:  http://www.disc-tools.com/download/sptd
Manual procedure here:  http://daemonpro-help.com/en/problems_and_solutions/registry_and_sptd_problems.html

NOTE:  The uninstaller may not find the SPTD.sys driver.  Don't worry about it, just let us know in your post.

Once all of that is done, please post back if the sound still doesn't work.

I have tried these before, i go here https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P9X79/HelpDesk_Download/ and download the audio and ive downloaded the chipset.

Installed and restarted to no avail.

I also had windows 10 prior to upgrading my gpu, the sound was working fine.

i feel like i isolated it a little bit more. I completely wiped out the GPU drivers, including audio and video, booted to where it didn't recognize it as a device, and i still have no audio.  This leads me to believe it has something to do with the BIOS update i had to do to to install my new GPU.  So as far as im concerned its a problem with the MOBO or audio drivers, or something along those lines.  I no longer believe the GPU is interfering with the audio.

So MOBO? Drivers?  did i destroy the audio when I flashed the bios?  I don't feel like i did cause its still reading it as a audio device, it just doesn't register the speakers being plugged in.  Could it be a registry key error? i don't know alot about registry keys or their function.

more pictures attached, hopefully this helps you help me.

If i understand this correct the hardware is recognized, so it isn't dead, right?

Got work, i got a day or 2 off after this, im really going to dig into it.

I ordered this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IRVQ0F8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 ,hopefully it will give me some temporary sound.

The BIOS/UEFI update is a beta - no guarantee's that it's going to work properly.

Try flashing back to a non-beta version and see if that helps.

I can't read the attached picture.

Please save the Device Manager - Realtek event viewer log (right click on it and select "Save as...."

Save in the evtx format please.

Then also save the Admin logfile from the Custom Events as an evtx file

Zip both up and upload them with your next post.

Nothing in the Realtek log.

Could you please upload this one also:

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

usasma, i wanted to thank you for the time you have taken in this issue.  I want to inform you i installed a temporary usb audio device, so i have basic audio now.  I came to the conclusion that i can figure out if its BIOS vs Drivers by making a bootable CD-ROM of unbuntu and see if i can get audio from the MOBO there.  But to be honest my parts are getting old, some of them, and i plan on replacing them soon, this USB audio device work around is good enough for a few months to get me to where i can get all my new parts in.

I don't want to take any more of your time, i will check back here, I also, again, wanted to thank you very much.  If you want to consider this resolved, that be fine.

I'm glad to hear that you got sound!

The Admin log shows a lot of "Access to drivers on Windows Update was blocked by policy" errors

Along with a lot of errors stating "A connection to the Windows Update service could not be established"

Curiouser and curiouser!

I'd start by wondering about malware/viruses - or about your protection programs/tweaks that you've made.

Good luck!

I've made a assortment of tweaks, but it was all stuff to stop data collection, onenote, stuff like that, turning off location and cortana.  I have had no issues with viruses and typically run avira 24/7.  I also run ccleaner and ad-aware on a bimonthly basis.

I didnt block any driver access as far as i know.  would it be possible to enable whatever is trying to access drivers, or the such.

Would the fact i did a transfer over from windows 7 to 10 matter, i didnt do a clean OS install.

Did you set a System Restore point before you made these tweaks?  Can you restore back to a point before this happened?
The data collection tweaks and Cortana tweaks could have caused these symptoms.

It's possible that the update from W7 to W10 caused some of these problems, but the tweaks you describe could also have done it.

If unable to use System Restore successfully, then I'd suggest doing a Reset of the computer using the "Keep My Files" option

If that doesn't work, then I'd try a Reset using the Remove Everything option (and backup your stuff first - as everything will be wiped out).

I didn't, it was a flip of a switch, so i could just flip it back on, atleast i figured.  About 2 weeks im replacing these parts, I'm just going to roll with this workaround till then.  After i get a new mobo ill use this to build a different system with a fresh windows install and see if that fixes it.
