Before taking the major step of reinstalling your OS, try two things first:
1. Delete and then re-install MSN Messenger (that will fix your corrupt file)
2. Review the Slow Computer Troubleshooting Checklist that can be found here:

Regards,

try to set up checkdisk at systemboot by openingup my computer, rightclick on c: drive, click on properties, click the tab tools, click on checknow select automatically fix file system errors, then click on start and it will pop up a warning if you want to schedule a disk check to occur the next time you want to restart the computer, click yes then restart your computer thats one way to try and fix the problem.if that doesnt work then keep waiting and reading someone is bound to have a solution other than formatting you hard drive and reinstalling windows, also try a disck cleanup to get rid of you temp internet files

It seems John already did.

Do as the error message said and run error checking and if that isn't successful do as John advised and uninstall MS Messenger, reboot and reinstall it.

when it freezes

i cant click on anythin .. the whole screen jus freezes .. i cant even turn it off

at first i thought it might be because i have a few things running .. but it will do it even if i have 1-2 things running ..

and it wont let me defrag

when i try it says

disk defragmentor has detected that chkdsk is sheduled to run on the volume : (C:). Please run Chkdsk /f

but ive dun that .. it doesnt do anythin

when i try to chkdsk it tells me i cant because its in use by another program ??

Do you know exactly when this problem first started?

How much RAM do you have?

Is the computer having any other problems before the freeze?

You ran Chkdsk /f?
