The onboard card was shot ans so was a PCI audio card so I ordered a USB audio adapter but it plays choppy and in the DM the Multimedia Audio is Yellowed and I am not seeing an audio driver on their page below, help please?

What is the Vendor and Device ID in Device Manager for the Multimedia Audio listed as?  It probably will not say much as this is a USB device with built in drivers but you may be able to find something.

I am not understanding why the Multimedia Audio Controller listed would work for this USB adapter?

Try the driver here. Click on the hard drive icon and provide a junk email address.

Edit: Are you currently using the USB audio adapter? I don't see an audio driver at the link you posted.

The driver identifier redirects me to a Driver Updater page, when that runs it sends me to a Driver Reviver page?

The USB adapter is plugged in

Sorry about that.

I clicked on the green hard drive icon and provided a junk email address. It started the download but got a  404 not found page. I did not get transferred to a driver updater though.

I will post back when I can get a good download link.

Edit: This link said it would work for Vista but I am not sure. In the zip file you will see a folder for XP. See if it works for Vista. You may need to install it using compatibility mode. The inf file listed the device as PCI so I am not sure this will work for USB but give it a try. I would at least create a restore point first and a System Rescue Disk which you can do on Vista SP1.

That link is leading me back to driver identifier but not a direct link to any drivers?

That is correct. Make sure you click on the green hard drive icon. Not the Green Download button. Provide a junk email address and it will download a zip file called smv5.1 but I did some extra searching and found the C-Media site here. You want to download the driver for the 8738 chipset. I do not know if it is the MX or LX version though.

Hmnn, well John, the C-Media driver worked but for the PCI card :) so that's that I guess, thank you very much! Any idea just for my knowledge why the USB Audio device didn't work?

Not sure. Did you try a different USB port? When attached it should of stated that drivers were being installed for the USB audio card.

I would uninstall the code, VLC and then update the display driver. After the display driver update install VLC again. When you click on the display adapter in Device Manager what is listed?
