Hi everyone, I am new here and would love input on my current network components. My primary goal is to be able to stream video from my external hard drive to my ipad/iphone/computer/Smart tv/PS3. I currently use Plex and/or PS3 media server to stream from data on my pc. This has worked fine when video is on my computer. However now that I connected my WD My Book external hard drive to my Linksys router and try to stream that onto plex, it does not seem to work very well. Even on my PC, the external drive is mapped wirelessly but seems to freeze. Is the problem with the hard drive or the router. My components are as follows:

Linksys EA4500 Smartwifi Router
WD My book 4GB external hard drive

Do I need to buy a more current router which is faster? or Do I need to buy a better hard drive or a NAS.
It would be great to stream from the external hard drive to my devices without lag and stuttering.

My guess would be either the USB and/or hard drive is too slow for what you are trying to do.
