Mod Edit:  Split from  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/518450/vss-problem/ - Hamluis.

Hello cryptodan, thank very much you for the link and your valuable time in support!

Resurrecting a old topic with the same type of non-working VSS Running W7 Home on Asus 1215N

Installed your provided app from link ....

Tried saving a CP > "Restore Point"... didn't work ...VSS Error (0x80042302)

rebooted... tried again... didn't works

Services > VSS Started Auto

Services > WIA Started Auto

And I've checked every Service to see if any had a "dependency" of VSS, and None I found did!

Tried the other script, and it didn't work.

Tried "Repair" with W7 Home on usb.

Did that with CP > Bkup Restore make repair disc

It ran it's thing and Rebooted to W7 and

Tried to do CP > Create a Image > VSS Error (0x80042302)....

Checked CCleaner and Tools and Restore Points and nothing there.

Rebootd for the practice (lol) and tried all again.

Macrium Reflect 6.1 said Failed to create a Volume Snapshot Drive C: Error 0x80042302

I don't care to do is to update to W10.1

I'd have to than do a Reparation my new HD and try to Use W10 and hopeful to dual boot with W10 and W7?

Because I don't want to leave W7 with everything working great ....except the VSS!

Anyone can fix VSS or have any other support?

Oh Yea... thanks for providing the excellent forum!

- The program you used to repair VSS is outdated. There's a new version available.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/windows-repair-all-in-one/

It also contains a repair for VSS.

Follow the instructions provided. Disable internet & antivirus and run the program.

Hey thanks mr. Willy22

I dnloaded it and try asap tomorrow...

Asus support didn't have a clue how to fix VSS. They tried tho, 3 years out of warranty. WOW!

MS had a lot of guesses that didn't fix it

..

But this forum has faster and more consice support than most others that didn't know "how to" when something went wrong in my OS.

I'll report back later tomorrow..... BUT THANKS for the fast reply and LINK to a newer version.

- Also read the instructions on the downloadpage. You perhaps need to run more repairs. I don't know. Windows is such a complicated piece of software.

Please do the following.

Click on the Start orb, then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.

cmd will appear above the search box in the results.  Right click on it and choose Run as administrator from the menu that opens.  This will open the Command Prompt.

Copy the command below, paste it in the Command Prompt, then press Enter.

vssadmin list writers

Post the results in your topic.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Thank you dc3 for the code...

All the writing after that code was only the . . . .
Copyright of the VSS Service MS dates..... and than the C:\windows\system32> thing came up again.

I have a screenshot . . . but I don't know how to . . . "post the results". . . that really were not there.

Again thank you!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for Willy22
I Tried to do a BIOS update thru Asus Updater and got a . . . .Warning that BIOS has been changed...... So until I get that fixed I don't want to do anything that will need reboot, until I do a bootable flash with the BIOS updater in root.
I may have to do a dos command BIOS install.
Than I'm going to try a "Upgrade" with my W7 repair disc.
Than go to that Tweak tool.
Again thank you both.
