1. Erratic mouse behavior.

works flawlessly on win 7 machine and linux machine

Logitech MX evolution.....driver is logitechs.

2. System freezes......usually immediately after boot up.....(but has just done a random freeze in the middle of the day as well)

This freezes the screen, mouse, keyboard. Totally unresponsive

Requires hard shutdown/reboot

When machine reboots, sometimes the "msft music" plays...sometimes not....occasionally i get to choose either windows 10 or macrium recovery....not consistently

3. Video freeze.

Happens when the video is paused for some time (approx 15 minutes).....when it is 'unpaused' the video plays as it should for a few seconds.....then freezes.....then continues but loses picture/distorts.....the pic breaks up completely for up to 5 seconds or so....then resumes normally.

Player....VLC...latest version

4. Occasionally after reboot...if I click on 'Notifications' (next to clock), the window will pop open ....but the tablet mode, Settings, connect etc buttons at the bottom will be greyed out and non responsive.

These settings can still be opened via the start button etc

5.After downloading thershold 2....file associations were altered....to the extent that despite having foxit reader both installed and set as default.....when I go to HERE the windows 10 pdf viewer/reader opens it !!

Start with this stuff (I'm figuring that the TH2/1511 update was roughly equivalent to the update from previous OS's to W10 (build 10240):

There's a couple of things to try:
1)  Run the following command in a Powershell window that's run as an Administrator in order to re-register the Windows Store apps:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
From this article:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/re-register-windows-store-apps
Be sure that Edge is closed (in Task Manager).  Cortana will spit an error as it's still running - don't worry about that for now.

2)  Uninstall your antivirus, then use the removal tool for it (there's a list of most of them here:  http://www.carrona.org/avuninst.html ), then install a freshly downloaded, W10 compatible version.  Some A/V have difficulties with the upgrade, so removing them and then reinstalling them will help how they run.

3)  Download fresh copies of the latest, W10 compatible audio and video drivers for your system.  Then uninstall the current versions from your system.  Then install the freshly downloaded versions.

4)  Get ALL available Windows Updates

5)  Get ALL available, W10 compatible drivers/programs from the manufacturer's website.  If some aren't compatible w/W10, check here about uninstalling them.

6)  Get ALL available, W10 compatible drivers/programs for any add-on hardware and any software that you installed previously.  If they aren't compatible, please uninstall them.

Let's have a look at these reports (to address items 1-3):

1)  Please provide this information (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

2)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

I don't know anything about item 4

Item 5 may be behavior by default.  Submit feedback to Microsoft (if you have the ability to submit).

Otherwise I'd suggest uninstall/reinstall of FoxIt (easier for me than finding and changing all the associations manually).

When I did the install of the original Fall Update it did some file type association changes, most notably making MS-Edge the preferred program for PDF files!

I manually tweaked this back, but usasma is correct that simply reinstalling your preferred PDF reader (or other similar software for other file types) is by far easier than doing manual tweaks.

I have not had this recur since the original Fall Update.  All later updates that have changed either the build number itself or the dot designation on a build have left things as I've set them.

I used Universal USB installer to load it to the thumbie.....changed the boot order....rebooted     and had a play for a while.

I am in the process of attempting to find out if the motherboard on this particular pc will support a SSD......I already have two traditional HD's installed....(so plenty of storage space.)....I need to figure that out before i install ubuntu etc etc

@ usasma......after searching for, downloading and installing the latest graphics card driver......problem has gone away.   ie 1. no more weird mouse behavior, no more system freeze at boot up, and the incidence of 3. video freeze....has all but stopped....it does a tiny bit here and there...but I am prepared to live with that on this pc (I watch more videos on my linux machine)....4. has gone...completely.

5. is quite weird/inconsistent....i uninstalled and reinstalled foxit reader 3 times....and only then did my preferred default setting (foxit for all pdf's) "take"..

Update....pdf now open in my browser (firefox) via the Foxit Plugin.

The more you tweak things, the more behaviors become weird.

That's one of the reasons why I limit my tweaking to only a few things.

It also makes recovery from problems easier in most cases.

In the event that you keep tweaking things, I suggest creating a disk image.

Create one now.

Then, as the system improves, create others (deleting the oldest one's to save space).

Eventually, settle into a routine of making images once a week.

I used to do this on a dedicated hard drive.

Now I use Acronis True Image and schedule incremental backups to my Western Digital My Cloud device.

But, being lazy at heart, I haven't checked the backups recently - and the backups may not be being incremented (Acronis errors in my notification area).

Will have to get around to checking them soon :0)

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
