Hi ,

a colleague at work recently went into a panic preaching vehemently to one and all that if my stand alone laptop showed "console" in the task manager USER tab then my laptop has been hacked.  in fairness to my colleague he recently fell victim to a serious hack that took control of all his networked PCs at home.   I have run the cmd.exe (as an adminstrator) and ran the SFC/ScanNow utility as well as IPCONFIG and nothing flashed up as suspect but to be honest I am not sure if I have missed anything.

is there anything else that I can do.  is the "console" session a normal part of the windows 7 setup

regards

Thank You dc3.  My colleague apologised for over reacting and mentioned to me only yesterday that if I saw something like "console 2" etc then I might be in a bit of strife.  I appreciate the assistance.  Here's wishing you a safe and blessed Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful new year.

regards
