Now the question is...did they acquire Erik Loman (erikloman) and Edwin Engels (eengels), our two favorite SurfRight Reps. who visit BC on occasion to answer questions and provide assistance?

Since Mark Loman already joined Sophos, I don't think there is any doubt that Erik and Edwin joined Sophos as well.

Appears so.

Sophos will continue development and support for SurfRight’s existing product line including its popular HitmanPro malware scanning and removal tools, used by more than 20 million users worldwide. Sophos will also retain all SurfRight employees and the company’s office in Hengelo. SurfRight CEO Mark Loman will join the Sophos Enduser Security Group, reporting to Dan Schiappa.

Dan Schiappa, Sophos Enduser Security Group, Post #8041

Hi, I’m Dan Schiappa, I head up the Sophos Enduser Security Group. We are really excited to welcome SurfRight and and all of you, the valued SurfRight customers, to Sophos! I wanted to directly address some of the questions raised here – first, we do intend to continue to offer both free tools, HitmanPro and HitmanPro.Alert, as standalone downloads. As noted here, we have great strength in development and can continue to work with the SurfRight team to enhance these tools and the technology. We also plan to integrate these capabilities into the Sophos portfolio of security solutions for businesses. We will honor any current license agreements you have from SurfRight, and free tools will continue to be free. Sophos has a portfolio of free security tools for home users that we have just extended with a brand new Sophos Home tool (check it out for Mac and PC), and we see the tools from SurfRight as a perfect complement. Product support will continue through the forums, emails and discussion boards you use today, and any transitions we eventually make to Sophos platforms will be transparent, so you’re never left with nowhere to go. The Sophos Community includes free support for home and free tools – take a look here. Thanks for your support of SurfRight, I know you are all fans of the product, as we are at Sophos (or we wouldn't have bought them). My goal is to make you love the products even more and by combining their outstanding tech and innovation with Sophos' outstanding tech and innovation you will have the best products you can find on the market, be it free or paid! Thanks for letting us into the SurfRight family, and we will make you all proud!

Another update...

Dan Schiappa, Sophos Enduser Security Group, Post #8072

Hi, this is Dan Schiappa the SVP and GM from Sophos. I was responsible for driving this acquisition. I can explain further why we bought it. We do not plan to use HitmanPro.UTM, as we have one of the largest UTM and NGFW businesses in the world and growing more than 2x the market rate, so we are very excited and proud of our business there. We are very interested in their endpoint technologies both for the consumer use case, but also for integration into our commercial product. We are the 4th largest endpoint provider in the world and growing much faster than the market in that space as well. We believe by combining the next generation technologies we have, such as Behavior Analytics, Malicious Traffic Detection, Crowd Sourced Application Reputations, and Security Heartbeat, we will further advance our solution to be the unquestionable leader in the space. On the consumer side, we offer free tools today, located at: https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools.aspx, and we plan to continue to offer them, and will offer HitmanPro from this location. All in all very exciting and we hope you will feel that when you look back at this acquisition, it is something that you will all be happy with.

Basically, the acquisition was made to reinforce business products, and not consumer products I guess. Even thought they might use SurfRight's technology in some of their consumer-oriented products. This is basically how every security-related acquisitions looks like today :P
