I've been having some issues with my home network being compromised so I'm in the process of resetting my entire network.  I just finished restoring my daughter's computer to the factory settings. When I click on IE explorer to get emsisoft installed the browser instantly redirected me to the following site:

http://www.google.com/ig?brand=TSNA&bmod=TNSA

I know this isn't correct so I stopped what I was doing and posted here.  I was able to get to ESET online site, but the scan ran very quickly (started at 40%) and didn't find anything. I tried to look at other tools on the web but those sites were being blocked.  I would have thought a complete reinstall would have fixed everything, but I'm wondering if I'm dealing with something really ugly here. The computer is now off of the network until someone can help me.

Hi Scott

What Router do you have?

  • Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Checkmark the following checkboxes:
    • Flush DNS
    • Report IE Proxy Settings
    • Reset IE Proxy Settings
    • Report FF Proxy Settings
    • Reset FF Proxy Settings
    • List content of Hosts
    • List IP configuration
    • List Winsock Entries
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log

    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run. Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.
  • Link 1
  • Link 2
    • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
    • If using Vista/Windows7, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
    • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
    • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
    • If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
    • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
  • Do not reboot the computer, you will need to run the application again.

Hi Boopme, and thank you for taking time to help me out.

The router is a RT-N66U.  Somehow it was reset to unsecured public access and the user id and password were changed twice in the last 6 months.  I have since reset the router and updated the firmware.  Since I still need to use them to do run scans and stuff and I'm going to reset them all when I'm done.  I will send the requested logs in the next message.

Just so you know I haven't even had a chance to setup anything on the computer yet so there is no AV installed or anything. It is just a factory refresh from the restore partition.

Ok,,, in Control Panel uninstall Adobe reader 9 and all Java. Those old versions are exploitable by malware.

The problem may be actually based in your router.
Run Malwarebytes ...

Download 51a46ae42d560-malwarebytes_anti_malware.MalwareBytes Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup-2.0.exe to start the installation of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
  • Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation. You can find the complete installation procedure here.
  • Click the Scan Now button, a threat scan will start automatically.
  • MalwareBytes Anti-Malware will now check for the latest updates. Click Update Now if new updates are available.
  • Your computer is now being scanned, please do not use your computer during the scan.
  • If no threats were found, click View detailed log.
    • Click Export and save the log as a .txt file on your Desktop or another location.
  • If the scan detected any threats, click Apply Actions.
    • To complete any actions taken you will be prompted to restart your computer...click on Yes.
    • After reboot, start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again and click the History Tab at the top and select Application Logs.
    • Check the box next to Scan Log. Choose the most current scan and click View.
    • Click Export and save the log as a .txt file on your Desktop or another location.
Providing the MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware log file
  • Attach the log file you just saved to your next reply for further review.
Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds). If you dont know the router's default password, you can look it up HERE

However, if there are other infected machines using the same router, they will need to be cleared with the above steps before resetting the router. Otherwise, the malware will simply go back and change the router's DNS settings. You also need to reconfigure any security settings you had in place prior to the reset. Check out this site here for video tutorials on how to properly configure your router's encryption and security settings. You may also need to consult with your Internet service provider to find out which DNS servers your network should be using.

Once you have ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on the infected system, and reset the router to its default configuration you can reconnect to the internet, and router. Then return to this site to post your logs

Okay....I uninstalled both Adobe and Java as instructed. I tried to access bleepingcomputer from the computer but the I keep getting a message at the bottom of the screen that says the page loaded but with errors (yellow triangle with a exclamation mark in it).  Bleeping computer will not come up no matter what I do. . I did go into the IE setting and changed the google TNSA default website to the standard

I reset the router and I'm still having issues getting to any websites on this computer.  I've got other computers that I'm using to get to bleeping computer and malwarebytes so I'm not sure what the issue really is. The other laptop I ran just about every tool I could think of and none of them are finding a darn thing.  I've done RKill, TSDDKiller, Kaspersky, Super AntiSpyware, Emisoft Emergency Kit, Hitman Pro (it actually found tracking cookies), ESET Online, SPYBOT, and AdwCleaner. I'm now starting to rebuild all of my other laptops and desktops.  What is interesting is that the one I can use to get to malwarebytes couldn't be restored to factory defaults because the recovery partition is corrupted.

Anyway.... I will post the logs shortly.

Another thing I found interesting when running Malwarebytes is that the after about 2000 objects were scanned the system jumped to 37,000.  Not really sure what happened to the other 35,000 objects.  I also noticed the same thing when it went from Scan File System to the Heuristic Analysis. It went from 45,000 up to over 316,000 in a matter of seconds.

I think it better if we start a new topic and get a deeper look.
Something is not visable. You can just copy your 1st post then use the guide.
Please follow this Preparation Guide and post in a new topic.

Include this link back to here.

Let me know if all went well.

Boopme,

I also ran the MTB and RKILL on my other laptop and put the logs in here too for your reveiw.  There was a lot of other informaiton in that that I'm hoping might help you figure out what is going on.  This is the computer where my new credit card got hacked when I set it up in PayPal the night before.  It is also the one with the factory restore partition that is now corrupted.

OK, do post 8 we are not seeing enough.
As a side note. I keep one credit card for All online purchasing. That way there is only one card to stop when an issue does arise.

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.
From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.
Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRL Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.
The current wait time is 1 - 5 days and ALL logs are answered.
If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.
