Hi all,

Newbie here.  I have a dual-boot machine, one partition running MS-Windows while the other partition runs GNU/Linux Debian. The network at my end is something like this -

ISP --Modem __Computer 1

                    |__Computer 2

Sorry for the attempt at that clumsy diagram. It is an ADSL connection if that makes any change. The system was working perfectly last few days in the sense that networking was working properly, as late as till last week.

The modem has the ISP credentials so I don't have to do anything but simply put in the eternet/lan 10 mbps port and I can access the 512 kbps Internet.

Now on Windows something changed, on booting to Debian it works so I know it is not a hardware issue but rather some sort of software issue. I had been updating microsoft security essentials in the hope it would be scanning actively for any viruses or trojans.  I had also been updating the updates via windowsupdate . Now either one of the updates or some program installation has messed up the networking and for the life of me don't know which. Even Updates are not helpful as I haven't been able to see a view which tells which update was on which date or something like that so I could try to revert it and see if that fixes.

I did see some other posts and http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/598794/my-laptop-wont-stay-connected-to-the-internet-help/ and this seemed to be a bit similar hence using that as a base ran the mtb tool, sharing the results -

Hope the above is helpful in diagnozing my issue. I have no idea why those files hashes it was not able to verify.
