I am using windows Xp Sp3. I have a 80Gb HDD with two partitions 1: C:(total size:29.2gb)  2:D(total size:45.2). When I open Drive D: it freezes for 10-15 sec. Plz tell me how to fix it.

This kind of problem is hard to track down. How much free space is on each partition. Have you done a Disk Defragmention on both partitions?

Defrag the disk and see if that helps. I would clean out your temp files with TFC before doing the defrag.

Did you also do the disk defragmentation on D:? Right Click D: > Properties > Tools >  Defrag Now. If you have done that then download CCleaner and use the cleaner but not the registry cleaner.

If you disable your Antivirus do you still get a lag? Edit: Is there a lag when opening D: in Safe Mode?

After disabling my antivirus program the partition is opening perfectly fine without freezing. What could be the problem?

From the fact your open time went down after a defrag and to zero after you disabled your AV I would have to say your AV is using more resources then your computer can handle. How much RAM is on the computer? Some AVs are lighter than others on older computers.

Each AV can behave differently on different computers because of the variation of hardware. For XP try Bitdefender Free and see if it improves. What AV are you currently using?

Edit: You will need to create a free Bitdefender account after 30 days in order for protection to continue.

avast has been known to slow down some XP computers. If this is the free version I would do a custom install and only install the File and Web shields. Do not install NG or any of the other software it includes.
